Harriett P. Strela, 83, Rockford, died Friday evening, January 8, 1982, at the Shane Hill Nursiong Home, Rockford, where she had been a patient since July. She was born June 16, 1898 in Rockford, the daughter of Summerton and Ida A. (Shock) Pifer. She was married 51 years ago to James strela, who died March 10, 1977. Survivors include a niece, Katherine Kinder, Littleton, Colorado,and two nephews, William Pifer, Rockford and Gordon Spitler, Alabama. Two sisters and four brothers are deceased. Mrs. Strela taught school 35 years at Shaker Heights until her retirement in 1965. She was member of Delta Kappa Gamma
and the First united Methodist Church, Rockford. Graveside services will be held Saturday, January 16, at 1:00 p.m. t Riverside Cemetery, Rockford, There will be no calling hours at Ketcham-Ripley Funeral Home, which has charge of arrangements. OBITUARY:

S. F. Pifer, The community was shocked Tuesday Morning to learn of the sudden and unexpected death of S. F. Pifer, who passed away from a heart attack during the night at his home on West Market Street. While in failing health, Mr. Pifer's final sickness was of but few hours duration. He was not well Monday, and remained i bed nearly all day. In the evening his condition was not improved and medical aid was summoned. Assuring the family that he was going to be all right, they went into an adjoining room and they returned a few minutes late to find that he had passd away. It was a sad blow to all. Mr. Pifer was well known by a wide circle of friends throughout this part of the state, and the family has the sympathy of all in this hour of great sorrow. Summerton F. Pifer was the son of John and Rebecca (Nutt) Pifer of Blackcreek Township, Mercer ounty, was born January 18, 1861 and departed this life fromhis home in Rockford July 5, 1927, at the age of 66 years, 5 months, and 27 days. January 11, 1883, Mr. Pifer was united in marriage with Ida A. Shock. After a brief period on the farm they came to Rockford, which has since been their home. Three of their seven children have preceded him, one infant child, Wheeler at the age of six months, and Howard who died in service over-seas. The devoted companion of 44 years of wedded life and four children survive him. They are Mrs. George R. Kinder, and Mrs. Pearl D. Spitler, of Rockford, Mr. Floyd pifer of Curce, Oklahoma, and Miss Harriet at home. There are four living grandchildren. On coming to Rockford, Mr. Pifer entered business and later he bacame a salesman for the International Harvester company and spent 20 years with this copany. For the past five years because of impaired health, he was retired from active business life. Mr. Pifer has always been identified with the constructive interests of community life and served in various offices in the town. He was converted when a young man and on coming to Rockford became a member of the Methodist Episcopal church. For years he has served in various official capacities and was one of the present board of Trustees of the church. He had always had a keen interest i the development of the Sunday School and Church. He was faithful and steadfast inservice and a regular attendant a the service of worship up to the last week of his life. In the home, where every man is best known he lived to love and there with bright and beautiful companionship of wife
children and granchildren he found a haven of rest. In his passing from a beautiful home life here, he enters into the home eternal. His loved ones will miss him here. The church realize the loss of a faithful brother and the community a constructive citizen. Mr. Pifer is survived by three brothers, L. E. Pifer of Knoxville, Tennessee; Thomas Pifer of Coldwater, Mi.,; Daniel Pifer of Indian River, MI; and two sistrs, Mrs. Oscar Pifer of Mercer County, and Mrs. Martha Graham of Pennville, Indiana. Friends and nieghbors regard their loss and stand in sympathy with the loved ones of the family in the passing of husband and father from the home. The funeral services willbe held this Friday morning, at 10:30 am. from the family home on West Market Street, Rockford, conducted by Rev.B. S. Nichols. The burial will be made in the family plot in Riverside Cemetery.
