April 23, 1734 PGCo Will V21 pg102; proved 29 July 1734, pg 232 To Son Thomas and hrs. 150A. "Carrick," and 100A to be laid out of present dwelling plantation, "Charles"; should sd son intermarry with Susannah Swoot, sd tracts to son John and hrs.: and personaly under same condition.


To Sons William and John and their hrs., "Pesquasco," with 100A adjoining on the back, and 100A next to Philpots, being in Charles Co, also all lands in afsd county; should either son die without issue survivor to inherit portion of deceased; but if son Thomas should marry afsd. Susannah then all afsd land to pass to sons William and John only to enjoy above mentiond land given Thomas on conditions as afsd.


To Daus Sarah and Rebeckah and their hrs., residue of "Charles;" they dying without issue to son Thomas and hrs.


To brother Thomas and hrs., tract given to him by father, without mentioning his hrs. Residue of personal estate to be divided between sons William and John and daus. Sarah and Rebekah. Money in England and all tobacco to be applied by brother Thomas, ex., in purchase of slaves for sd child, so they may have them when they come of age.

"Roger de Merlay the 3rd, after doing homage and obtaining livery of his lands in 1239, paid œ100 for his relief. In 1242 he paid a fine of 50 marks to be excused from obeying the summons to go with the King to the wars in Gascony. In 1244 he appears in a list of barons summoned to attend the King at Newcastle with horse and arms to repair against the Scots. In the great rebellion of the barons he stood loyally to the King, by which he escaped the misfortune of seeing his patrimonial estates strewed like a wreck around him.
