Notes

"After serious research in Edenton, Chowan Co. NC and review of all avaliable wills and land records, it appears that Henry Bonner who left a will in 1766 in Edenton, Chowan Co. NC was father of our Thomas. Believe me it is difficult because there are so many Thomas, Henry and William BONNERs you wonder how THEY ever kept it straight. This Henry had a cousin Capt Thomas Bonner and a brother Thomas Bonner who he appointed as guardians of his children almost as an after thought as it looks like this was added perhaps later and is a paragraph after the first signatures on the will. His wife Elizabeth, 6 mo after his death, m. William ROBERTS and attempted to keep her husband's property. Our Thomas took her to court - she claiming that the will was invalid. Thomas won the court decision and the plantation where his father had lived (Thomas had been willed half by his father and must have been of age when his father died).

The most important document (#10) was The Last Will and Testament of Henry Bonner dated July, 7 1766, which mentions Wife: Elizabeth and Children: Thomas (Our Thomas B. 1744), William, Henry, and Richard. These documents were retrieved by Ken Bonner and Bill Harvey."

A land deed (#11) from Henry Bonner to his brother Thomas (Not Thomas b. 1744), dated April 18, 1745.

Land Petition (#9) for Henry Bonner, dated August, 4, 1722.

Judy Cardwell has transcribed many of the BONNER wills and documents in Chowan Co NC as well as VA and PA.
