He was born in June 1827 (10; 2 (38 in 1865), 7 [32 in 1860], 8 [43 in 1870], 9 [54 in 1880], 10 [72 in 1900]). He was born in Adams County, Pennsylvania (2, 7, 8, 9, 10).

In 1850, he was living in Hamiltonban Township, Adams County, Pennsylvania (6). He was a farmer (6). He was living with Israel Irvin (presumably his father), and five other Irvin's (presumably his siblings) (6).

In 1856/1857, he married Sarah [unknown family name] (10). In 1900, she had had one child, who was still alive (10).

In 1860, he was living in Liberty Township, Adams County, Pennsylvania (7). He was a miller, and owned $1,100 in real estate, and $180 in personal property (7). He was living with his wife Sarah and daughter Mary (7).

When he enlisted, he was a miller (2).

Description

When he enlisted, he was 5 feet 11 inches tall, and had a fair complexion, blue eyes, and dark hair (2).

During the war

He was drafted (1, 2). He enlisted and was mustered into service on 28 February 1865 (1, 2, 4). He was enlisted for one year, at Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, by Captain Eyster (2). His enlistment was credited to the sixteenth congressional district (2). He was a private in company A (1, 11, 12, 13).

He mustered out with his company on 10 July 1865 (1, 4). He was a private, in company A (11, 12, 13).

After the war

In 1870, he was living in Liberty Township, Adams County, Pennsylvania (8). He was a miller, and owned $5,300 in real estate and $1,000 in personal property (8). He was living with his wife Sarah and daughter Mary (8).

In 1880, he was living in Liberty Township, Adams County, Pennsylvania (9). He was a miller (9). He was living with his wife Sarah and daughter Mary (9).

On 6 December 1889 [or 1887?], he applied successfully from Pennsylvania for a pension (3, 5).

In 1890, he was living in Fairfield, Liberty Township, Adams County, Pennsylvania (4). He had had chronic diarrhea (4).

In 1900, he was living in Liberty Township, Adams County, Pennsylvania (10). He was a miller (10). He was living with his wife and daughter (10).

He died in 1905 (3).

On 21 January [?] 1905, his widow, Sarah Irwin, applied unsuccessfully from Pennsylvania for a pension (3, 5).
