Using FrontPage Themes

Throughout this lesson web site, the pages have a consistent look to them; the background looks like cloth, the graphic navigation  buttons all look like a dash of colored paint, the banners are purple with the page title displayed in white.  The navigation  buttons at the top are links to pages at the same level as the current page.  The button representing the current page is a different color from the others.  The vertical navigation bar along the left side shows text buttons for the home page, the page above the current one and the pages below it, if there are any.

A built-in FrontPage theme has been applied to this web site.

To apply a theme, select Format from the menu bar and Theme. . . from the drop-down menu

That will open the Themes dialog box - with a scrollable list of available themes along the left side and a representation of the selected theme in the right hand window.  There are options for using vivid colors, active graphics, and a background image - as well as using a cascading style sheet for applying the graphical theme.

It is possible to modify a theme, replacing graphic element files with others, changing colors or text attributes.  Click the Modify button to open the modification toolbar - click the button for the type of element you wish to modify - make the changes you want.  If you save the changed theme, you will be offered the opportunity to save it with a new name to prevent overwriting the original theme files.

Note - applying a theme will permanently alter any existing formats of text, font, color, background image of your web site.  Be aware of this and make a copy of your web site for experimentation if you are not certain you will accept the changes.

Now, we will return to the "Design" page, and continue with the section on Tables
