     "Why select the years '1755 to 1785'
                This is the period of the great deportation. If you haven't read about this part of
                 Acadian history, you are urged to do so now (see the Appendix). The deportation
                 started in 1755 and lasted about eight years. Between 1755 and 1785, the Acadians
                 were nomads ... looking for a place to settle. The year 1785 marks the last surge of
                 Acadian immigration, when seven ships delivered over 1500 Acadians to Louisiana."
