Here is the newspaper
article from Harrison W. Straley Jr.'s funeral:
Beckley Post-Herald, Beckley, WV. Friday Morning, January 21, 1949
STRALEY RITES TODAY
PRINCETON, Jan 20 - Last rites will be held today 2 o'clock Friday,
January 21, for Harrison Wilson Straley II, at the home of his
sister, Mrs. Kate Straley Mahood, 1508 N. Walker street, Princeton.
Mr. Straley, who was one of Princeton's oldest and most prominent
citizens, died Tuesday afternoon in a Washington hospital after an
illness of several months.
His parents were Delilah Burnside and Harrison W. Straley, who were
pioneer settlers in what is now the town of Oakvale, from whence
they moved to Princeton. Mr. Straley was born in Princeton
April 9, 1867, was educated in the local schools and graduated from
Concord College. He then attended Richmond College, now the
University of Richmond and went to the National School of Oratory
and Elocution in Philadelphia.
In 1893 he began the study of law in Princeton in the office of the
late Judge David E. Johnston, and was admitted to the bar at the end
of five weeks. He was attorney for the N & W railroad and was
prosecutor of Mercer County from 1896. He married the late Rosa Lee
Beaureguard of Halifax county, Virginia.
He succeeded this father who was the founder and president of the
Princeton Banking company, now the Princeton Bank and Trust Co. and
following his resignation from the bank he engaged in the real
estate business.
He was on the board of directors of Bluefield college, the Bristol (Va)
Preparatory school and of the Baptist Orphanage of Roanoke, VA., of
which his father was one of the founders.
Mr. Straley was a lifelong member of the Baptist church in
Princeton, which his mother helped to establish, and was the author
of several books on the Baptist religion. He was also an author on
several books on the history of Southern West Virginia and was the
Mercer county member of the West Virginia Historical Society.
Surviving him are a son, Harrison Wilson Straley III, of Washington,
two grandsons, a sister, Mrs. Kate Mahood, several nieces and
nephews and several grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
The Rev. Denver J. Davis, pastor of the First Baptist church, will
conduct the services with internment in Oakwood cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Ben Bird, T. M. Johnson, Stuart Leech, Earl J.
Hall, D. K. Calloway, Chauncey Wiley and Bernley Barger.
