Book of McKee pgs 62-68 describes his successes and his founding of McKeesport town: "Born in the north of Ireland in 1746, he had crossed the Atlantic at a very early age, and began his career on the frontier before reachiing manhood...[he, his father, and his brother Robert probably settled about 1759, through permission from Queen Alliquippa, at the mouth of the Youghiogheny River]..He became familiar with the method of procedure in taking up land...[and] he owned lots in Pittsburgh, Bever Falls and other towns in the west the value of which, with his coal-lands, would aggregate millions of dollars at the present day...he was a man of wealth, and his operations evinced shrewdness and sagacity."
Pg 148 quotes head stone inscriptions from Versailles Cemetery, McKeesport, Pa.:
"John McKee, Founder of McKeesport, Died January 11, 1807, Aged 61 years
and Sally Redick McKee, His Wife, Died July 15, 1814, Aged 48 years"
"Walkinshaw's Annals of Pennsylvania, vol. 2, pages 261 and 262 records the immigrating family in 1768:
David McKee, wife Margaret. Children: John McKee and two daughters..." (Book of McKee p 60)
John obviously married in Ireland and brought two daughters with him...no wife, so she must have died before 1768.
