In the Roberts book on Friends Families of Upper Bucks County it is stated that Jacob was born in Middletown Township but probably removed with his mother and half sister to Bethlehem Township, Hunterdon County, NJ until 1749. He then came to Haycock Township Bucks County, PA and settled upon 255 acres. In 1767 he purchased about 140 acres adjoining his homestead at Strawntown.

The was an unsigned file ion my computer about the Strawn family and this claims that Jacob got a land patent in 1802 for land in Wayne Township, Greene County, PA close to where it joins Franklin Township (about 8 miles S.W. of Washington). On 2/24/94 I visited the WRHS to see what I could learn about the family. There is an index to the 1800 Pennsylvania census. There are 6 Strawhan families and all are in Bucks County (HR Township) pages 083:02. Under tha name, Strawn there are 4 names. There is a Jacob (pg. 93:06), and John Sr. & Jr. are in Greene County (pg. 105:06). Jacob is in Jefferson Township and the John's are in Morgan Township. Isiah Stawn lived in Somerset County - Turkeyfoot Township. Parents: Jacob STRAWHEN and Chistiana PURSELL.

In 1817 his family moved to Licking County< Ohio where Jacob became interested in ranching. He married Matilda Greene, the daughter of a Baptist minister, when he was 19. He started breeding and dealing in cattle & horses and within a few years was so successful he needed more land. In 1831 he settled in Morgan County, IL, four miles SW of Jacksonville. At one time his ranch had 8,000 acres. His first wife, Matilda, bore seven children and he had five sons and one daughter by his second wife. Parents: Isiah STRAWN and Susannah RINEHART.
