On his pension application, it stated he was 68 years old on 15
Nov 1903 or b 1835. He was actually b 1839 according to census
records.
He md 1st) Sarah B. McKneely bef 1860 & md 2nd) Tennessee
Rogillio 2 Feb 1864 East Feliciana Parish, LA.101 Tennessee b
1843 d/o Joseph Rogillio & Leah Clark. Another source stated
her mother was J. E. The family came from Spain to Baton Rouge.
William and Tennessee traveled by oxcart to Galveston TX in
1880. He is age 46 and Tennessee is age 37 on the 1880 Grimes
Co., TX Census. W. T. applied for Civil War Pension from Mesa,
Grimes, TX on 15 Nov 1903 when he was 68 years old. In the
application, he stated he had lived in TX 27 years, that he was
a farmer, that he had a defect in his sight and was of feeble
condition. He enlisted 29 Mar 1862 at Camp Moore, LA for two
years in Co. A 27th Louisiana Infantry. He was at the siege of
Vicksburg, MS. His property consisted of one horse valued at
$50 & 11 head of cattle valued at $88. Wit. E. T. Brian of East
Baton Rogue, LA age 58 who stated he had known W. T. Worsham
since 1860 & they enlisted together in 1862. R. M. Povle of
Woodland, LA age 47 knew W. T. all his life in this Parish.
There were two affidavits included with the pension application
papers. One is signed by J. J. Colson in regards to the funeral
expenses that he paid for William T. The other is signed by the
doctor of record. Both say William d on 12 Feb 1923.
A family story said that the reason William Thomas Worsham and
Tennessee moved to Texas in 1875 was that William T. had killed
his brother back in Louisiana. Since his elder brother lived
until 1888 and his younger one married in 1876, perhaps there
was a Richard after all.
Birth: Headstone at Lake Grove Cemetary
Death: Affidavits signed by J.J. Colson about morturary costs
and the doctor of record.
A short biography was in the History of Grimes Co., TX by Grimes
Co. Hist. Com, 1982:
"William Thomas Worsham was born in East Feliciana Parish,
Louisiana 1839 and married Tennessee "Tennie" Rogilla, daughter
of Joseph and J. E. Rogilla. William's parents' names are
unknown at this time. The story is that three Worsham brothers
came from Ireland and settled in Louisiana. William's brother,
Richard, lived in New Orleans, his sister, Mary Leah, married
Billy Drenk. Tennie's father's family came from Spain and
settled near Baton Rouge, Louisiana. It is said that Tennie had
beautiful blonde hair and blue eyes.
"William and Tennie came to Galveston, Texas by oxcart in 1880.
They lived
many years near Iola and are buried at Lake Grove Cemetery (Mesa
Community)
Tennie was a school teacher at Independence.
William T. Washam age 46 b LA & Tennessee is age 37 b LA in the
1880 Grimes Co., TX Census. He is on the 1910 Grimes Co., TX
Census, age 73. He d 3 Mar 1922 Grimes Co., TX.
