John CATCHPOLE was baptised in Wimbotsham, Norfolk on 28 Feb 1807. His parents were James and Susan CATCHPOLE. His first marriage was to Sarah ROBERTSON on 8 Nov 1835 in Wimbotsham. Sarah died in April 1837, aged 25. I have found no offspring for this marriage. I believe that John and Susan lived in the house in Lynn Rd that is now Sew Inn, next to the Wesleyan Chapel(or perhaps an earlier cottage on this site). John died in the Sep qtr of 1863 in Downham Market (ref:FreeBMD) and was buried on 9 July in St Edmund's graveyard. |

| Sarah | b. 1843. Illegitimate, but took her step father's name. In 1851 was an eight year old. In Fulham in 1861, (age noted as 21). |

| Susannah | b. 1846, Holbeach. Illegitimate. Took her step father's name. Birth was registered twice(in Holbeach, LIN) under the name Susannah Canwell CATCHPOLE and Susannah Canwell CANWELL. Baptised 8 Dec 1850 @ D. Mkt United Reformed Church with the surname CATCHPOLE. |
| Eliza | b/d 1849. She was bp. on 19 Sep 1849 and buried on 10 Nov aged 2 months. Looks like Susannah was very pregnant or a very new mother when she & John married. |

1857-1940. Married twice. Firstly to Elizabeth BAILEY with whom he had at least 2 children, Then Elizabeth SNOWDEN from Hoo, Kent. In 1881 was with first wife at home in Minster, Sheerness(RR). In 1891 and 1901 was in Alverstoke, Southampton (with the Royal Rifle RR) with second wife and many children, all born in Hants or Kent.
