Eleanor 'Ella' 'Ellen' Dykins was born on 29 August 1849 at Massadyre, Mold, Flintshire, Wales.1,2 As of 1867,her married name was McBurney. She married William (McBirney) McBurney, son of William (McBirney) (McBurney) McBirnie and Mary McAllister, on 17 June 1867 at St. Thomas Eccleston parish church, Prescot, Lancashire, England.3 Eleanor 'Ella' 'Ellen' Dykins and William (McBirney) McBurney appeared on the census of 2 April 1871 at Landward, New Monkland, Lanark, Scotland.1,4 Eleanor immigrated, on 1 December 1871. Destination: (an unknown value).5 She and William (McBirney) McBurney appeared on the census of 1 June 1880 at Chattanooga, Hamilton Co., TN.6 Eleanor 'Ella' 'Ellen' Dykins and William (McBirney) McBurney appeared on the census of 1 June 1900 at Middlesboro, Bell Co., KY.7 As of 16 June 1917,her married name was Jarvis.1 Eleanor 'Ella' 'Ellen' Dykins died on 4 January 1929 at Barbourville, Knox Co., KY, at age 79.1 She was buried on 6 January 1929 at Pineville, Bell Co., KY.2 Per Tom McBirnie, Jr. based on information from Mike Baggett:

WILLIAM [ROBERT] MCBURNEY- BROTHER OF ALEXANDER MCBIRNIE I
-Second Quarter 1867, William married Ellen
Dykins in Prescott, Lancashire, England.
-NOTE: Ellen’s first name is variously listed as Ellen, Helen, Ella and Eleanor. Her original name apparently was Eleanor
Dykins. She was born in Mold, Flintshire, North Wales, on 29 AUG 1849.
-NOTE: According to a British source apparently familiar with her family, Ellen was the daughter of Robert
Dykins, tailor, and Mary Ann (Williams) Dykins. This source states that "Eleanor, or Ellen as she was known, married William Robert McBurney, an ‘expert in fire clay' which presumably meant he built kilns, in the Prescot area of Liverpool in 1867."
-NOTE: Some recent American family trees have Ellen’s parents as William
Dykins and Mary (Davis) Dykins. The birth and death dates for William (c1803-1884) correspond with those of Robert Dykins’ father. However, William’s wife was reported to be Mary Roberts, not Mary Davis. Therefore, this information is doubtful.

DYKINS
Chapter 26: ROBERT DYKINS - TAILOR

Eleanor, or Ellen as she was known, married William Robert McBurney, an ‘expert in fire clay’ which presumably meant he built kilns, in the Prescot area of Liverpool in 1867. In the late 1860’s Eleanor and William Robert emigrated to America with their youngest son, Robert William. Eleanor returned to visit her widowed father in 1890 with two American born sons, Samuel and Frederick. William Robert apparently remained in America. She stayed in Wales for at least six months before returning to America. The couple had at least eight children. William Robert McBurney died in Thompson, Georgia, in 1907. Ten years later his 68-year-old widow married Leander Jarvis. Eleanor then lived in Barbournville [sic], Kentucky until her death in 1929.

I am in possession of a letter dated 8 Mar 1934 and postmarked Jasonville, IN detailing the death of one of my ancestors. Unfortunately, he is not mentioned by name in the letter. I have strong evidence that the deceased was Henry McBURNEY but I need to confirm this. The letter also mentions Andrew McBURNEY who I suspect is the son of Henry, and Ella who is probably the wife. The letter states that he died at 3:30 am on Monday 12 Feb 1934 and was buried on 14 Feb. I would like to share data with anyone else reseaching this line.

Ella 'Ellie' McBurney married Thomas Jasper Payne on 23 March 1904.2 Ella 'Ellie' McBurney died on 27 October 1918 at Dayton, Montgomery Co., OH, at age 36; This obituary appears to be from the Brethren in Christ Mission in Dayton, Ohio:

PAYNE - Mrs. Ella McBurney Payne, daughter of Wm. and Ellen McBurney, was born March 8, 1882, in Victoria, Tenn. She was united in marriage to Thomas Payne in the year 1904. To this union were born eight children, four sons and four daughters. A father and three sons, Samuel, Elmer, and Henry, also four brothers, Jimmie, Charley, Johnny, and Alexander preceded her to the great beyond. She leaves to mourn her departure a dear husband and five children: Walter, Margaret, Gladys, Edna, and little Sophia; also a mother and five brothers and one sister. In the year 1915, Bro. and Sr. Payne and their family moved from Gilmour, Ind., to Dayton, O., and later became attendants at the services of the Brethren in Christ Mission. On March 24, 1918, Bro. and Sr. Payne and their three eldest children became affiliated with us as a church body. Sr. Payne has endeavored since to walk in the light and obey her Lord. We shall ever remember in our revival about two weeks preceding her sickness, she was
led of the Spirit to go to the altar and seek a deeper experience in her soul. And as she made a full consecration of her all, and had abandoned herself completely to the whole will of God, how the peace of Heaven did fill her soul. It truly was a precious time of rejoicing with her by us all. Now as we look back over that glorious scene we can see if wat the tender hand of God that led her to the altar that evening to prepare her for her near approaching home in glory. Oh! How glad she must be now in the presence of her dear Savior that she said yes to the whole will of her Lord that night while yet on earth and at the altar of mercy. This dear sister was taken down in her home with the influenza and became very seriously ill; just one week later she was removed to the Miama Valley Hospital. Every effort for her recovery was of no avail, she continued to grow weaker until the fatal disease of pneumonia became the determination of her death. Sr. Payne departed this life at 4:15, Oct. 27, 1918, at the age of 36 years, 7 months and 19 days. Funeral services were in their home 36 Vermont Ave., Dayton, Ohio, Monday evening Oct. 28, 1918; it was conducted by Bro. W. H. Boyer. Text: Rev. 14:13. (Then I heard a voice from Heaven say, "Write:
Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on." "Yes," says the Spirit, "they will rest from their labor, for their deeds will follow them.") The next morning the family left for Gilmour, Ind. for burial.
In loving memory of our dear MaMa and campanion.
Gone but not forgotten,
In loving memory of our loving Mother
Precious Mama, she has left us,
Yes forevermore.
But we hope to meet our love one
On that bright and happy shore.
Lonely and sad will be the hours
Since our dear Mama has gone
But on, a brighter home than ours
In Heaven is now her own.
Gone but not forgotten.
In loving memory of my precious companion.
Dearest wife, thou hast left us,
And our loss we deeply feel.2 She was buried on 30 October 1918 at Jasonville, Greene Co., IN.
