Lorraine L. Gundlach, 85, of Sandusky, passed away late Monday afternoon, March 9, 2009, surrounded by her family in Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky, after an 18-month battle with cancer.
She was born in Oak Hill, Ohio, Sept. 27, 1923, to E. Truman and Nellie (Colby) Davis. She attended and graduated from Oak Hill High School. Early in life she worked for Hinde & Dauch and later as a much loved volunteer, 31 years at Providence Hospital and helping with Meals on Wheels. Along with her late husband, Lamont, she was involved with the Craft Shop in Cedar Point's Frontier Town.
She loved spending time with her family and grandchildren and enjoying life at the dock with the "Dock Gang."
Lorraine was a member of the Columbus Avenue United Methodist Church and the Ladies Auxiliary.
She is survived by her two daughters, Beverly J. (Joe) Benson of Tuscaloosa, Ala., and Sue A. (Jim) Kramer of Huron; two sons, Lamont M. Gundlach and Hal D. (Karen) Gundlach, both ofSandusky; eight grandchildren, Beth, Jamie, Tiffany, Susan, Angie, Molly, Matt and Megan;stepgrandson, Scott; 11 great-grandchildren; brother, Donald "Sonny" (Peggy) Davis of Sandusky; daughter-in-law, Kathy Gundlach; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lamont C. Gundlach,April 20, 2005; parents; three sisters, Garnet Allen, Wanda Corvin and Mary Harris; and two brothers, Lowell and Weldon Davis.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday in David F. Koch Funeral Home, 520 Columbus Ave.,Sandusky. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Columbus Avenue United Methodist Church, 2401 Columbus Ave., Sandusky; the Rev. Barbara E. Stephens-Rich will officiate. Pallbearers will be Brian Crow, Matthew Gundlach, Jamie Kramer, Nate Frost, Rob Claybaugh and James Lindon. Entombment will be in the Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum, Sandusky.
