At the time her husband was murdered Leah Anna had apparently just learned she
was pregnant, and very possibly John never knew that she was again pregnant before
his death, for on March 3, 1865 she gave birth to a baby boy who did not live,
just a little more than eight months after John's death.
She suffered from Consumption for many years and her first child, David, died
from the same disease at a very young age. It is said that Leah Anna always blamed
herself for his death and that her mental instability became very evicent after
her husband's murder. She was unfit to care for her children and they were taken
in by her father-in-law, Jeremiah Boyd for awhile, but the youngest were sent
to live with her older children who were already married.
Sugar Creek Methodist Church Cemetery which is located about 3 miles off TN
State Rd 74 (Spring Place Road), in the southeastern part of Bradley County,
just north of the Whitfield co GA line.
