'...The majority of those buried in the cemetery died on 1 July, 3 September or 13 November 1916.

'There are now 2,540 Commonwealth casualties of the First World War buried or commemorated in the cemetery. 1,335 of the graves are unidentified, but special memorials commemorate 43 casualties known or believed to be buried among them. There are also special memorials to 16 casualties know to have been buried in other cemeteries, whose graves were destroyed by shell fire.

'The cemetery was designed by Sir Reginald Blomfield.

His Regimental number was 96061, rank Sergeant and is described as 'A keen hard worker and a good man with horses', he served in Egypt, Alexandria, etc., and was discharged on 26 March 1919; his medals included the 1914-1915 Bronze Star, the British War Medal and the Victory Medal on 10 February 1914.7 He married Sarah Ellen Foundling in 1924 at Staffordshire, England; and their marriage was recorded at Wolverhampton Registration district in the December quarter 1924.8 Arthur Hayes and Sarah Ellen Foundling lived on 29 September 1939 at Staffordshire, England; where they were on the 1939 Register in the Wolverhampton area.9 Arthur Hayes died in 1975 at Staffordshire, England; and his death was recorded at Wolverhampton Registration district in the December quarter 1975.2
