Mosby James Born in VA, died 1855. Married Elizabeth Rogers 8 Nov 1813. Dtr of Wm Rogers.


Source: KY: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin & Kniffin, 2nd edition., 1885, Butler CO. : Mosby James was a native of Henrico Co, VA and his wife Elizabeth (Rogers) James a native of Nelson Co. KY. They were of Scotch and Irish descent, respectively. At the age of 9 years, in the latter part of the last century, Mosby James removed with his parents from VA to Mercer Co. KY, where his early education was received. While yet a young man, he removed to Ohio Co. KY where he was married, and here he was engaged in agricultural pursuits all his life. He was also for a time engaged in merchandising in connection with farming. He served as quartermaster under Gen. Hopkins, in his campaigns against the Indians in the northwest territory, and was a captain in the KY militia for a number of years. For some 12 years he held the office of magistrate in Ohio Co, and was also high sheriff of that county for a term of 2 years. His death occurred in 1855; he and wife were consistent members of the Christian Church. The ancestor of the James family in American, was one of the first settlers in the colony of VA, the family are also connected with the first families of VA, including the Mosbys.

"Nathaniel Pope was one of the twenty-four freemen of the "Grand Inquest," in Maryland in 1637. He did not know how to write, and affixed a mark for his signature. In 1643 he and his "nine menial servants" were exempted from all military service; sent as agent to Kent Island, in 1647, he attempted, as charged, to persuade the people there to come and live at Appomattox until they should become strong enough to seize and hold their Kent Island homes. In 1656 he was made Lieutenant Colonel. He married Luce, and had issue:"
