He was the third son of Dr. John Briscoe and Eleanor Magruder and was born at "Piedmont," the colonial residence of his father and grandfather. He was a lieutenant in Captain Humphrey's company during the War of 1812 and served at Stony Point. He was afterward made a major of the Fifty-fifth Regiment of Virginia militia Military Virginia.


"Major Thomas Briscoe, son of Dr. Briscoe 4th and Eleanore Magruder Briscoe, lived at Spice Grove, Jefferson county. He was born at Piedmont in 1791 and died in 1867. He was a lieutenant in Captain Humphrey's company during the War of 1812 and served at Stony Point. He was afterward made a major of the Fifty-fifth Regiment of Virginia militia. He married Juliet Wood Hite daughter of Col. James Hite (who was great-grandson of Baron Jost Hite and his wife Anna Maria Du Bois, daughter of Louis, the patentee-of New Platz), and Juliet Wood Baker, daughter of John Baker and Judith Howard Wood, daugther of Peter Wood and Susannah Howard, who was the daughter of Lady Judith Howard, of Howard Hall, England."

Will of Micajah Via-1849 Albemarle Co VA: I Micajah Via of the County of Albemarle and State of Virginia do hereby make my last Will and Testament in manner & form following, that is to say 1st I desire that all the perishable part of my Estate be immediately sold after my decease, and out of the money arising therefrom all my just debts & funeral expenses be paid. Should the perishable part of my Estate be insufficient for the purposes above mentioned, then I desire that my executor hereafter named may sell such part of my lands as they may deem sufficient and out of the monies arising therefrom pay and satisfy such debts as remain unpaid from the sale of my perishable Estate


But should my perishable Estate be more than sufficient to pay my just debts, the remainder of the money to be equally divided, (after paying Hewly Sanales formerly Hewly Via, Winston Via & Garland Via, each one dollar as their portion of my Estate) between Clifton Via & Brightberry Via


2nd I give to my Granddaughter Sarah Via (daughter of Bright Via) one bureau, to her and her heirs forever.


3rd I give to my sons Clifton Via & Brightberry Via all my real Estate, to be equally divided between them, to them and their heirs & assigns forever


And Lastly - I do hereby appoint my friend Bazaleel Brown my executor of this my last Will & Testament hereby revoking all others by me made.

Micajah was born around 1760 in Albemarle County, VA. In 1779, he bought 68 acres on Mechums River and Spring Creek for 25 pounds (Colonial money). Later in life, he owned a large amount of land on Rocky Run and Current Mountain. He owned two plantations in that particular region.
Micajah married Mary Mills in 1789. Among their children were Brightberry and Clifton. Micajah died in 1849.
