When General Order #11 was issued in Jackson County, Missouri,
Oliver Thompson and his family were forced to leave their farm.
Family tradition says that they entrusted their farm to a
neighbor. This neighbor then sold the land to the future
President Harry Truman's grandfather. What was the Thompson
family farm and cemetery became the Truman family farm and
Truman family cemetery, and the farmhouse on the property is now
a National Historic Site and is known as the Truman Farm Home,
where Harry S. Truman spent many years farming with his parents
and siblings, and where his mother and sister were still living
when he was President. The rest of the family tradition says
that Oliver Thompson's sons were so angered by the loss of their
farm that they ran with the Younger brothers for a time."
