91st PA: William H Michiner

William H Michiner

Before the war

He was born in 1844/45 (6 (19 in 1864), 10 (37 in 1880), 11 (13 in 1860), 12 (23 in 1870), 17 (44 at death in 1891)). He was born in Pennsylvania (10, 11, 12).

In 1860, he was living in ward 15, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (11). He was living with Allen and Lizzie Michener (presumably his parents), with Edgar, Allen, Margaret, John, Charles, Frank, and Maria Michener (presumably siblings), and with Isabella Meller (11). He had attended school within the year (11).

During the war

He was enlisted and mustered into service, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on 15 February 1864 (1; 3 [14 Feb 64], 8). He was a private in company D (1, 6, 18-20).

On 2 March 1864, Colonel Gregory detached him for duty with the recruiting service in Chester, Pennsylvania (2, 4). He was never on duty with the regiment (3).

On 14 March 1864, Lieutenant Carpenter, who was commanding company D, reported that he did not think Michiner was "physically capable of performing active military duty in the field" (3). He was discharged at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on 25 March 1864 by special order 127 (from the Secretary of War) (1, 8). On 2 April 1864, the regiment reported him discharged (5, 6, 7). He was a private, in company D (18-20).

After the war

In 1870, he was living in ward 20, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (12). He was living with Allen and Eliza Michiner (presumably his parents), and with John and Charles Michiner (presumably brothers) (12). He was a coach painter (12).

In 1880, he was living at 1323 [unknown street], Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (10). He was a coach maker (10). He was living with his mother, two brothers, and a servant (10).

In 1890, he was living at 1323 North 12th Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (8, 9). The city directory does not list an occupation for him (9). He was living with John and Charles Michener, and with Mary E Capp (John Capp's widow) (9).

Probably in fall 1890, he was living at 1323 N 12th Street, Philadelphia Pennsylvania (13). He was living with John (13). He was a clerk (13).

On 11 December 1891, he probably died, apparently at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (17).
