He reenlisted as a veteran volunteer on 26 December 1863, at Bealton, Virginia (1, 5). He was then a hospital steward (5).
On 29 June 1864, he was on duty at the division hospital (7).
On 1 August 1864, he was reported absent sick (8).
He was discharged on 8 March 1865 on surgeon's certificate of disability (1, 3, 5, 9 [42 months service], 15). He was then a hospital steward, in Field and Staff (3, 16). He had served for forty-two months (14).
He successfully applied for a pension on 2 August 1866 (3, 6).
In 1870, he was living in the 15th ward of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (12). He was living with Lydia Thomas (presumably his wife (12). He was a druggist, and owned $2,200 in personal property (12).
On 18 July 1876, he was admitted to the National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers (9, 13, 14). He suffered from rheumatism (9, 14). He received a pension of $26 per month (9, 14 [$56 sic]).
In 1880, he was living in the Southern Branch of the National Soldiers Home (10).
In 1882, he was present at the Southern Branch of the National Soldiers Home (14).
He was present in the Southern Branch in 1883 (9), and in 1885 (13). He had rheumatism (13). He was 65 years old, and received a pension of $30 per month (13).
He died on 21 May 1885 (3, 13).
