Neeltje Mastenbroek (F)
(1 January 1839 - 2 March 1903)
Last Edited=31 Dec 2004

Neeltje Mastenbroek was born on 1 January 1839 in the Netherlands.1,2 Neeltje and Nellie may be the same person. There are some similarities but their information is not exact. I wonder how much of the change is the Americanization of the Dutch names and incorrect lore and research. Sometime between her birth and her marriage in 1859, she came to America. I do not know if she immigrated with her parents or not.
Neeltje married Jon De Young, son of Pieter De Jong and Trijnte Dalenberg, on 27 March 1859.1 Neeltje and John had at least 9 children. These children are Trijintje, James, Clara, Jantje, Adriaanus, Jennie, Pieter, Minnie and Mary.1
John, age 23, and Neltje, age 21, were enumerated on the 1860 Federal Census for the Blue Island Post Office in Worth Township, Cook County, Illinois. Also enumerated in this household was their daughter, Trijintje who is listed as Catharine and is half a year old.2 Follow the link to see the census image. Neltje died on 2 March 1903.1 She was 64 old.
