Notes

"Received licence to entail the manor of Mordiford 20 June 1298; was the owner of lands in other countries and a benefector to the abbeys of Gloucester and Llanthony Secunda. To the first he gave the advowson of Mordiford; to the second the advowsons of Caldicote, in the marches of Wales, and Haresfield, in co. Gloucs."

"was a minor at the time of his father's death and Thomas Dansey then was awarded a 15 marks for his care until he became of age. He was given control of the Sufton Estate when he became of age. Henry was trained along with his brother, Nicholas as Knight in service of the King. Henry was one of the knights of the shire called to defend the county aginst the rebel forces of Simon de Montfort at the Battle of Evesham. Henry de Hereford, in 1294, confirmed the Church of the Holy Rood in Mordiford to St. Guthlac's Priory. He died shortly before 15 June 1304, and the escheator was ordered to take his lands into the king's hand; they were delivered to his son John on 27 August 1304." [S1670] [S2030]

Notes

"Drury Stith, son of Lieutenant-Colonel Drury Stith and Susanna Bathurst, his wife, was born about 1695, lived for some time in Prince George county, and later in Brunswick county. In 1726 he was a justice of Prince George county and in 1727 a captain in the militia, but he was lieutenant-colonel before 1735. He qualified as clerk of Brunswick county, May 11, 1732, and he was also county surveyor. He was interested in a copper mine. He married Elizabeth Buckner, and died in 1740, leaving issue Drury Stith (see above).

Pittsylvania County, Virginia History: "Brunswick was so sparsely settled that it was not until 1732, twelve years after its establishment, that a court for the county was organized. The first justices chosen for the great southern county were Henry Fox, Henry Embry, John Wall, John Irby, George Walton, William Wynne, Richard Birch, Nathaniel Edwards, Charles King, and William Maclin. Richard Birch qualified as Sheriff and Drury Stith as Clerk, but Stith later became surveyor of Brunswick, a position of much trust and authority in the uncharted wilderness. His deputies were Peter Fontaine, a son of the rector of Charles City County, Robert and Sherwood Walton. With the opening of the western country to settlers land speculation became rife, and Monette said, "In none of the provinces had the infatuation for western lands been carried to a greater extent than in Virginia."
