Notes

Twelve children were born in Lafayette Co. MS where most of them grew up. he was a Confederate soldier. For details on the descendants of this family, see Higginbotham, descendants of Moses and Frances Kyle.

The cookbook "This Little Higgy Went to Market" contains a collections of recipes from the Higginbothams and their kin, (including Nash) who founded "Higginbotham Brothers and Company", current headquarters in Comanche, Texas. I believe it was published in the late 1960s. In 1981 the same company celebrated their 100th anniversary and among other things, they published another cookbook entitled "100th Anniversary Cookbook of Higginbotham Brothers & Company. The recipes were sent in by dozens of company employees and family members. We were unable to find an extra copy of the first book, but do have a collection of memorabilia and a copy of the anniversary cookbook.

This company originated in Dublin, Texas around 1880, its principal founders were Rufus Wilson Higginbotham and his brother Joseph Martin Higginbotham. Their father was John James Higginbotham, born in Feliciana Parish, Louisiana in 1822. They lived in Lafayette county, Mississippi for many years before moving to Dublin, Texas about 1879.

This family is covered in section three of our book entitled "Higginbotham Descendants of Moses and Frances (Kyle)". Our book is also out of print. Earl Higginbotham

In 1974 Helen Corbitt of Neiman Marcus published her _Helen Corbitt Cooks for Comopany_. In it she presents a recipe for Green Pepper Jelly with this introduction: "This recipe came from Dallas's Suzy Nash who says it originates from the Higginbotham Family Cookbook called _This Little Higgy Went To Market_."
