91st PA: Frederick Links

Frederick Links

Name

According to the pension index by name, he enlisted under the alias 'Fredrick Parker' (4, 10). Perhaps he enlisted in the 7th Kentucky under that name; I have no evidence that he used that name while in the 91st.

Before the war

He was born on 3 February 1844, (5, 6 (Feb 1845); 3 (18 in 1863), 6 [55 in 1900], 7 [66 in 1910], 8 [74 (?) in 1920]). He was born in Clay County, Kentucky (5, 6 [Feb 1845], 7, 8; 3 has New Jersey).

Description

When he enlisted, he was 5 feet 3-3/4 inches tall, and had a dark complexion, blue eyes, and brown hair (3).

During the war

He also served in company B of the 7th Kentucky Infantry (4, 10).

He was a substitute (1, 2, 3). He enlisted and was mustered into service in the 118th Pennsylvania Infantry on 15 October 1863 (1, 2, 3, 10). He was enlisted for three years, at Scranton, Pennsylvania, by Captain Bradford (3). He was mustered in company I of the 118th Pennsylvania (2, 10).

He was a prisoner from 2 June 1864 to February 1865 (2).

On 2 June 1865, he was transferred from the 118th Pennsylvania to the 91st Pennsylvania (1, 2). He was a private, in company H of the 91st Pennsylvania (1, 11).

He mustered out with his company on 10 July 1865 (1, 10). He was a private, in company H (11).

After the war

On 7 August 1870, he applied successfully from Kansas for a pension (4, 10).

On 16 February 1873, he married Paulina Josephine Dugan, in Alma, Crawford County, Arkansas (5, 6, 7). (She was born on 13 December 1854, in Alma, Crawford County, Arkansas, to Thomas C Dougan and Serinous Levonia Rodgers (5).) They had twelve children (5; 6 and 7 have 11 children 10 alive):

In 1900, he was living in Van Buren Township, Crawford County, Arkansas (6). He was a laborer (6). He was living with his wife Josephine, and their children Lila, Laura, Annia [?], Richard, George, Robert, Frank, Virgil, and Ella (6).

On 4 March 1907, he again applied for a pension (10).

In 1910, he was living in Van Buren Township, Crawford County, Arkansas (7). He was not working (7). He was living with his wife Josephine, their children Lela, Richard, George, and Ella, and their granddaughter Emma (7).

In 1920, he was living in Van Buren Township, Crawford County, Arkansas (8). He was retired (8). He was living with his wife Josephine (8).

He died on 9 July 1920, at Van Boron, Arkansas (5 [13 Dec 1920], 10).

On 26 August 1920, his widow, Pauline Josephine Links, applied successfully from Arkansas for a pension (4, 10).

In 1930, his widow, Josephine Lincks, was living at 503 North 20th Street, Van Buren, Crawford County, Arkansas (9). She was living with her daughter Laura Lewis and Laura's niece Viola Lincks (9).

In 1940, his widow, Josephine Lincks, was living at 503 North 20th Street, Van Buren, Crawford County, Arkansas (12). She was living with her daughter Laura Lewis, and Laura's niece Viola Lincks (12).
