Arlyn R. Irion, 55, of Langdon, ND, died September 14, 2004 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks after a battle with cancer.

Arlyn Ray Irion was born in Ashley, ND on February 7th, 1949 to Elledhor and Ida (Dollinger) Irion. He graduated from Lehr High School in 1967. He received his Bachelor of Science in Music from Valley City State University in 1970. On August 9th, 1969, he married Carol Emily Klipfel. Arlyn taught music in Green School near Valley City, Hazelton, Napoleon, and Lehr. He received a Master of Science from Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Arizona in 1979. He then returned to his hometown of Lehr, ND and became a principal at Lehr Public School. Later, he became the Superintendent at Lehr and Edgeley. Arlyn was the Superintendent at Langdon Area High School for the past four years. He passed away September 14, 2004 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND after a battle with cancer. He was 55 years old. In 1970, Arlyn joined the North Dakota National Guard. He served in the Edgeley, Wishek, Linton, Jamestown, Fargo, and Bismarck guard units. Colonel Irion retired from the military in 2002 as the Commander of the Regional Training Institute (RTI) at Camp Grafton in Devils Lake. Arlyn enjoyed fishing, hunting, and spending time with his family. Arlyn's dream was to spend his retirement at their new home at Mina Lake near Aberdeen, SD.

Arlyn is survived by his loving wife Carol Irion; two daughters Jacqueline (Matthew) Strinden of Grand Forks, ND, and Kristin (Nicholas) Ziegelmann of Grand Forks, ND, one son Corey (Jessica) Irion of Grand Forks, ND and one granddaughter, Lauren Strinden. He is also survived by his mother Ida Irion of Fredonia, ND; two brothers Gary (Leona) Irion of Fargo, ND and Darcy (Lisa) Irion of Fredonia, ND; one sister Delilah (Lonnie) Bender of Lehr, ND; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, Sept 16, 2004 with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. at the Brooks Funeral Home of Langdon. Visitation will also take place for one hour before the time of the services at the School on Friday. Services: Friday, September 17, 2004 at 3:00 p.m. at the Langdon Area High School of Langdon, North Dakota. Interment: North Dakota State Veteran's Cemetery of Mandan, North Dakota. Frieda Irion, 96, Kulm, N.D., died Monday, March 26, 2007, at Wishek Home for the Aged, Wishek, N.D.

Frieda Langenhan was born May 2, 1910, in Crawinkel, Germany, the daughter of Emil Karl and Alwine Langenhan. She grew up in Berka/Werra, Germany. At age 16, she left home and began to work. After World War II, she began to work at a hotel as a cook and a room maid. She moved to Bad Hersfeld, Germany, where she had the opportunity to receive vocational training as a glove sewer. She became an expert with the sewing machine and did the most complicated sewing for the owner of the factory. After 1954, she traveled to the United States by ship. She married Christ Irion. She became a U.S. citizen. They lived and farmed in the Kulm and Fredonia, N.D., areas. When he became ill, she was his caretaker until he died. She lived in Kulm for many years. She enjoyed working in her yard and garden.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Klara; and five brothers, Karl, Werner, Arthur, and twins, Alfred and Willi.

Services: 2 p.m. today, Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Kulm.
Visitation: one hour before the service at the funeral home.
Burial: Kulm Congregational Cemetery, Kulm.

Eugene "Gene" Irion, 75, Fargo, N.D., died Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2008, at his home.

Mr. Irion was born Oct. 31, 1932, in Fredonia, N.D., the son of Otto and Anna (Haag) Irion. He graduated from Kulm (N.D.) High School in 1950. He taught elementary school for a year in the Holland School District and a year in the Lautt School District. He moved to Jamestown and worked as a bookkeeper for Nasch Finch Co. before enlisting in the U.S. Navy. He was stationed in Great Lakes, Ill. and New Port, R.I. He married Viola Wolf on March 24, 1954, at Martin Luther Lutheran Church, Fredonia. Four days later, he boarded the carrier ship Bennington, as a member of Patrol Squadron 16. He was stationed in Jacksonville, Fla., Naval Air Facility Port Lyautey, French Morocco, North Africa, Airship Squadron 2 Brunswick, Ga., Guantanamo Bay, Portsmith Naval Shipyard, Kittery, Maine, USS Wasp Homeport, Boston, Mass., and Epdoconus, Bainbridge, Md. He retired from the Navy in 1971. They moved to Fredonia, and farmed for nine years. In 1980 they moved to Kulm and he began working for Kulm State Bank as the Fredonia Branch manager. They also owned and operated the Kulm Hotel from 1980 to 1995. During the summers of 1977 to 1980, they served as caretakers of Whitestone Hill Battlefield Historic Site. He retired in 1995 and they moved to Fargo. He was a member of Fredonia American Legion, Lions Club, Fleet Reserve Association, Martin Luther Lutheran Church, Fredonia, Zion Lutheran Church, Kulm, and Peace Lutheran Church, Fargo. He enjoyed playing board games, watching baseball, dining out, playing cards and telling stories.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, Perry, Huntsville, Ala., and Edward (Laura), Carrington, N.D.; a daughter, Tina Winther, Aberdeen, S.D.; two brothers, Willard (Mary), Orofino, Idaho, and Gordon (Kathy), Kulm; and three grandchildren.

Services: 1:30 p.m. Monday, Martin Luther Lutheran Church, Fredonia.
Prayer service: 7 p.m. Sunday at the church.
Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the church.

TERRY- Samuel Irion, 73, of Terry died Wednesday Morning in the Terry Community Hospital of a heart ailment.

He was born March 7, 1891, at Postal, South Bessarabia [South Russia]. He married Christina Elhard Jan. 20, 1915 at the bride's home near Jud, N.D. In March they moved to their homestead in eastern Montana, in the Cabin Creek area, 28 miles southeast of Fallon. There they made their home until November 1963 when they retired and moved to Terry.

Survivors include the widow, Christina, Terry; four sons, Albert and Theodore of Fallon, Morris of Billings and Clarence (Andy) of Terry; three brothers Theophil of Kulm, N.D., Otto of Fredonia, N.D. and Ernest of Lodi, Calif.; three sisters, Mrs. Lydia Bohnet of Entwistle, Alberta, Canada, Mrs. Amelia Fode and Mrs. Bertha Fode, both of Jud and five grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Terry Community Church, and burial will be at the Sunset Memorial Gardens at Glendive.

Walter Isaacs, 91, of Deer River died Monday, Aug. 17, 1998, in Community Memorial Hospital, Deer River.

Surviving relatives include sons Melvin, Norman, Leroy and Leslie, all of Deer River; daughters Delores, Deer River; and Lila Stanley, Cohasset; sisters Helvie Salmela, Grand Rapids; and Lela Hepokoski and Esther Holmstrom, both of Deer River; brother Emery, Deer River; 21 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his wife, Edna; sons Delbert and Leonard; and daughter Shirley.

Funeral: Friday, Aug. 21, at 1 p.m. at Independent Apostolic Lutheran Church, Deer River with the Rev. Wayne Bergstead officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Carroll Funeral Home, Deer River. Burial: Lindenwood Cemetery, Morse Township. Arrangements are by Carroll Funeral Home, Deer River.

Andrew "Andy" Iszler, 88, Gackle, N.D., died Thursday, June 26, 2003, at Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Center, Jamestown.

Mr. Iszler was born Aug. 16, 1914, in McIntosh County, near Venturia, N.D., the son of Andreas and Sophica (Joachim) Iszler. He grew up in the area, attended rural elementary school near Venturia and helped on the family farm. He married Viola Scheaffer on Oct. 5, 1941, in Wishek, N.D. They lived in Venturia until he entered the U.S. Army on March 20, 1942, at Fort Snelling, Minn. He served with the 353rd Anti Aircraft Searchlight Battalion in North Africa. He was discharged Nov. 23, 1944, at Wishek, with the rank of private first class. He returned to Wishek and farmed for four years until moving to a farm north of Cleveland where they lived for 15 years. They moved to a farm near Gackle where they farmed until 1992, when they moved into Gackle. She died Feb. 6, 2002. He was a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Gackle, and senior citizens club.

He is survived by a son, Roger (Ruby), Jamestown; two daughters, Doris (LeRoy) Jansen, Steele, N.D., and Donna (John) Basol, Rochester, Minn.; three sisters, Anna Kost, Ashley, N.D., Virginia (Roger) Bartholomay, Graham, Wash., and Shirley (Arlo) Lund, Pelican Rapids, Minn.; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; a daughter, Debra; two brothers, Art and Harold; and a granddaughter.

Edwin M. Iszler, 88, Gackle, N.D., formerly of Streeter, N.D., died Thursday, Nov. 1, 2007, at Jamestown Hospital, Jamestown.

Mr. Iszler was born June 17, 1919, on the farm northwest of Streeter, the son of Michael and Katherina (Enzminger) Iszler. He received his elementary education in the local rural school and graduated from Streeter High School in 1939. He graduated in 1941 from the State Normal and Industrial School, Ellendale, N.D., with a degree in education. He then attended Valley City (N.D.) State College and South Dakota State University, Vermillion, S.D. He married Mildred Roth on Sept. 7, 1939, at Bowdle, S.D. They lived on a farm near Streeter. He taught school for 34 years in Milnor, Verona, Robinson, Streeter, Denhoff and Fort Ransom, all in North Dakota. He was also a World Book representative since 1950. He later entered the Gackle Care Center. She died in 2006. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Streeter, and also taught Sunday school.

He is survived by a daughter, Valentena Erbele, Streeter; three sons, Bruce, Hunter, N.D., Elliot (Alice), Big Sky, Mont., and Michael D. (Robin), Streeter; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, five brothers, four sisters and a son-in-law, Duane Erbele.

Mildred Iszler, 84, Napoleon, ND formerly of the Streeter, ND community died Wednesday morning November 8, 2006 in the Napoleon Care Center.

Mildred Hilda Roth was born February 3, 1922 two miles South of Streeter, ND. She received her elementary education in the local rural school and attended Streeter High School. She grew to womanhood in the vicinity where she helped on the family farm.

She and Edwin M. Iszler were married September 7, 1939 at Bowdle, South Dakota. They made their home on a farm near Streeter and Edwin taught School. She was a former member of the Baptist Church and later attended the United Methodist Church, President of the Church Ladies Mission Group and a member of the Homemakers.

Surviving are her husband, Edwin, Wishek, ND, 1 daughter and 3 sons, Valentena Erbele, Streeter, ND, Bruce Iszler, Hunter, ND, Elliot (Alice) Iszler, Big Sky, MT, and Michael D. (Robin) Iszler, Streeter, ND, 9 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren, 3 sisters, Violet Newby, Portland, OR, Ethel Clark, Redding, CA, Luella Wymore, Salem, OR.

She was preceded in death by her parents, step-mother and one son-in-law, Duane Erbele in 2001.

The funeral Service will be at 11:00 AM Monday November 13, 2006 in the United Methodist Church in Streeter, ND with Rev. Darwin Kopfmann, pastor officiating.

Milton Iszler, 88, Streeter, N.D., died Tuesday, May 18, 2010, at Jamestown Hospital, Jamestown.

Mr. Iszler was born Dec. 12, 1921, at Streeter, the son of Gottlieb and Mary (Wolt) Iszler. He grew up there and graduated from Streeter High School, Streeter in 1941. He attended Jamestown College, Jamestown, and Westmar College, LeMars, Iowa. He married Evanda Bitterman on May 31, 1944, in Streeter. They lived in LeMars until 1946. They moved to a farm southeast of Streeter where he farmed. She died in 1992. He married Elta Schauer on March 5, 1998, at Ebenezer United Methodist Church, Streeter. They lived on the farm. He was a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church and was a Lions Club member for 40 years.

He is survived by his wife, Elta; a son, Virgil (Jocelyn), Fargo, N.D.; a daughter Ffolliot (Allen) Spilloway, Centralia, Wash.; four brothers, Thilmer (Dean) and Harry (Peggy), both Bismarck, N.D., James (Suzie), Miami, Fla., and Norlyn (Shirley), Streeter; a sister, Florence Asplund, Omaha, Neb.; and two grandchildren.

Viola Iszler, 79, Gackle, N.D., died Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2002, at St. Alexius Medical Center, Bismarck, N.D.

Viola Schaeffer was born May 6, 1922, at Wishek, N.D., the daughter of John and Margaretha (Neis) Schaeffer. She received her elementary education in the local school and grew up in the area. She married Andy Iszler Oct. 5, 1941, at Wishek. They lived for a short time in Venturia, N.D., until he entered the armed services. She lived in Jamestown and Bismarck, working at Jamestown Hospital and Bismarck Hospital. Following his discharge they farmed for four years near Wishek, and then moved north of Cleveland for 15 years before moving to a farm near Gackle. They farmed and lived there until 1991, when they moved into Gackle. She was a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Gackle, and the Senior Citizens.

She is survived by her husband; a son, Roger, (Ruby), Jamestown; two daughters, Doris (LeRoy) Jansen, Steele, N.D., and Donna (John) Basol, Rochester, Minn.; two brothers, John and Arthur, both Jamestown; a sister, Martha Schaible, Leola, S.D.; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Debra; a brother, three sisters and a granddaughter.

Russell N. Jacobson son of Joseph and Gunhild (Rosell) Jacobson was born December 28, 1939 in Dawson, ND. He attended school in Dawson, ND and graduated from Dawson High School in 1958. He enlisted in the US Army on June 28, 1958 and was a member of the 141st Engineer Combat Battalion. He was discharged on May 8, 1959. He married Sharon Bitz on May 17, 1960 in Steele, ND. He worked for Arneson’s Plumbing and Heating, Bob’s Plumbing and Heating and Greenwood Plumbing, all Jamestown, Northern Improvement, Bismarck and later Border States Paving, Fargo until his illness in 1999. He married Kathy Lautt on November 21, 1998 in Kulm, ND. He was a member of the First Congregational Church, Kulm, ND and American Legion Clifford Ost Post 260, Fredonia. Russell enjoyed crossword puzzles, woodworking, especially fiddle and polka music and was a great cook. His greatest joy was spending time with his family.

Russell Jacobson, passed away Wednesday, September 29, 2010 at his home surrounded by his family under the care of Prairieview Hospice, Wishek, ND. He was 70 years old.

Arven A. Janke, 83, Kulm, N.D., formerly Fredonia, N.D., died Wednesday, April 28, 2010, at Wishek Hospital, Wishek, N.D.

Mr. Janke was born Oct. 28, 1926, on the family farm north of Fredonia, the son of Gotthilf and Olga (Tiede) Janke. He attended Haag School #4. He assisted on the family farm. He entered the U.S. Army on March 30, 1951, at Fargo, N.D. He was stationed in the United States and Japan until his honorable discharge on Feb. 27, 1953, at Fort Lewis, Wash., with the rank of private first class. He married Leona Ruff on Nov. 4, 1955, at Fredonia. They lived and farmed in Fredonia until he retired in 2001. They then moved to Kulm. He was a member of the Martin Luther Lutheran Church, Fredonia.

He is survived by his wife; three daughters, Sara (Randi) Anfinson, Devils Lake, N.D., Myrna Bala, Bismarck, N.D., and Polly Thorsness, Barnesville, Minn.; two sons, Alan (Doris), Gkasofen, Germany, and Loren (Dannelle), Spearfish, S.D.; two brothers, Paul (Alice), Jamestown, and Hugo (Judy), Kulm; two sisters, Violet Krueger, Sebeka, Minn., and Erna Smith, Motley, Minn.; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Roland and Benjamin; and two sisters, Lorraine and Agnes.

Beverly "Bev" Janke, 68, Bismarck, N.D., formerly of LaMoure, N.D., died Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2008, at her home after a battle with cancer.

Beverly A. Hanson was born May 21, 1940, in rural LaMoure, the daughter of Maurice and Violet (Krapu) Hanson. She grew up on a farm near LaMoure and attended LaMoure Public School. She graduated in 1958 from LaMoure Public School. She attended Concordia College, Moorhead, Minn. She married Joel C. Janke on Jan. 2, 1960, at St. Ansgar Lutheran Church, LaMoure. She worked at LaMoure County ASCS office in the early 1960’s, Bismarck Public Schools in the mid 1970’s, Bismarck State College Farm Management Program and served as executive director of the North Dakota FFA Foundation for 22 years until she retired in 2002. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. She enjoyed traveling around the country.

She is survived by her husband; a son, Michael (Margie), LaMoure; a daughter, Shari (Steve) Schmit, Bismarck; a sister, Connie (Ray) Westmeyer, Minot, N.D.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Zion Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Thomas R. Marcis Jr. and the Rev. Douglas Bergelin officiating.

Mr. Janke was born July 12, 1933, in Perham, where he graduated from high school in 1951. He served with the U.S. Army in Korea from 1955 to 1956. On June 6, 1959, he married Gayle Derke near Perham. They had farmed for the past 40 years near Perham and New York Mills, Minn.

He is survived by his wife; three daughters, Barbara Janke, Fargo, Brenda (Tim) Wilschewski, Perham, Amy (John David) Sobieski, St. Paul; his mother, Edna Janke, New York Mills; a sister, Delaine (William) Meyer, Perham; and two grandchildren. ...

Edmund Janke, 89, Jamestown, formerly Gackle, N.D., died Thursday, Feb. 8, 2007, at Jamestown Hospital, Jamestown.

Mr. Janke was born Nov. 26, 1917, at the family farm southeast of Gackle, the son of Andrew and Magdalena (Lippert) Janke. He grew up and received his elementary education at the local rural school. He married Ida Buerkle on Nov. 7, 1943, at a country church near Fredonia, N.D. They lived on a farm 12 ½ miles southeast of Gackle. He worked for the Logan County (North Dakota) A.S.C.S. for 19 years and the County Committee Board for nine years. In 1988, they retired and moved into Gackle. She died Nov. 10, 2001. In June 2002, he moved to Jamestown. He served as treasurer and clerk of St. James Lutheran Church, Gackle, until it merged with Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Gackle. He also served on the Lutheran church board, the Feska rural school and Gackle Public School boards. He enjoyed playing cards and visiting.

He is survived by a daughter, Sharon (Ron) Knutson, Moorhead, Minn.; a son, Curtis (Jan), Jamestown; a sister, Alma Schott, Gackle; a brother, Wilbert, Gackle; and a grandchild.

Gottlieb Janke, 89, Minneapolis, Minn., died Thursday, Nov. 19, 1998, in the Veterans Administration Hospital, Minneapolis.

Mr. Janke was born Dec. 16, 1908, near Venturia, N.D., where he grew up and attended school. He worked for farmers in the Venturia area and later moved to California, where he worked for C&H Sugar factory, as well as picking fruit and working for S&J Winery for several years. In 1942, he entered the U.S. Army and served during World War II. Following his military discharge in 1944, he moved to the Garrison, N.D., area where he worked on construction of the Garrison Dam. LaVerne June Janke, 62, Jamestown, N.D., died Wednesday, Jan. 7, 1998, in her home.

LaVerne Bier was born March 13, 1935, near Medina, N.D., where she grew up and attended school. She graduated from Streeter (N.D.) High School, then attended business college in Jamestown. On Oct. 17, 1954, she married David Janke in Gackle, N.D. They lived on his parents' farm near Gackle. In 1962, then moved to Jamestown where she worked at Hi-Acres Manor and later as a nurses aide at Jamestown Hospital. In 1968, she began working for the North Dakota State Hospital in Jamestown as an administrative secretary. She retired in 1991.

Born June 25, 1927, in Gackle, N.D., Mr. Janke served in the Navy at the end of World War II. He married Jeanette Rudolf on Nov. 23, 1947, in Kulm, N.D. He was a resident of Renton 13 years.

Mr. Janke worked as a bus driver for A.T.C. Van. Co., retiring in January. He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church of Shoreline and was a former member of the American Legion on Whidbey Island. He enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, boating, water and snow skiing and traveling.

Mr. Janke is survived by his wife, Jeannette Janke of Renton; son Rod Janke of Shoreline; daughters Judy Cifuni of Alpha, Ore., and Susan Mattson of Des Moines; brother Wilbert Janke, in Missouri; sister Idella Antle of Seattle; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Bethel Lutheran Church in Shoreline. Inurnment will be at Tahoma National Cemetery in Maple Valley.

Mr. Janke was born June 6, 1933, near Fredonia, N.D., the son of Jacob E. and Katharina (Schlecht) Janke. They lived in Enderlin, N.D., for a short time before moving to Gackle, N.D. He attended Gackle Public School and helped on the family farm. He married Aleaine Remboldt on Sept. 26, 1954, in Gackle. They lived in Gackle until moving to St. Paul, Minn., in 1959. They returned to Gackle in 1964, when they became interested in farming and bought his parents’ farm. She died in 1988. He married Elsie Dewald Klund [Klundt] on March 26, 1991, in Jamestown. They lived in Gackle. He was a member of the Grace Baptist Church, Gackle; an active member of the Lions Club; a fireman in Gackle; a City Council member; and an honorary member of the F.F.A.

He is survived by his wife, Elsie; two sons, Wendell (Dixie), Jamestown, and Rick, Bismarck, N.D.; a daughter, Bonnie (Everett) Wieland, Streeter, N.D.; two stepdaughters, Tamara (Doug) Schrupp, Vergas, Minn., and Beverly (Myles) Flateland, Vergas, Minn.; a stepson, Shannon (Cathy) Klundt, St. Cloud, Minn.; two sisters, Hilma (Edward D.) Jackson and Adeline Muller, both Lodi, Calif.; three grandchildren and a step-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Aleaine; two children in infancy; and a brother.

Ruth Janke, 89, Kulm, N.D., died Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2006, at Innovis Hospital, Fargo, N.D.

Ruth Nill was born Oct. 29, 1916, on a farm southeast of Kulm, the daughter of Christian and Mary (Herrmann) Nill. She grew up and attended school in the Kulm area. She married Emil Janke on Oct. 10, 1937, in New Beresina Congregational Church, rural Kulm. They farmed southeast of Kulm for 10 years and then farmed on the east edge of Kulm. They moved into Kulm in 1976. He died March 21, 1992. She began spending the winters in Barnesville, Minn., in 1994. She moved to Barnesville in 2000. In the summer of 2005, she moved to Golden Manor, Barnesville. She was a member of First Congregational Church, Kulm, the Dorcas Society and Harmony Homemakers Club.

She is survived by a daughter, Bonnie (Roger) Herman, Barnesville; a brother, Roy, Kulm; a sister; Ione Schafer, Tripp, S.D.; two grandsons; and a great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a brother, Edgar; and a sister, Ann Anderson.

Roland Jans, 86, Kulm, N.D., died Thursday, Oct. 13, 2005, at Wishek Community Hospital, Wishek, N.D.

Roland Jans was born April 16, 1919, in Fredonia, N.D., the son of William and Olga (Hiller) Jans. He grew up in Fredonia and went to school at Fredonia Public School. He was confirmed at Martin Luther Lutheran Church in 1934. He moved with his family to Kulm in 1938. He graduated from Kulm High School 1940. He worked as a clerk in a grocery and general merchandise store in Fredonia from 1933 to 1938 and as a teller in the Kulm State Bank from 1940 to 1942. In 1942 he entered the Armed Services. While in the service, he went overseas in the European theater. In October 1945 he was given an honorable discharge at Camp McCoy, Wisc. He returned to work at the Kulm State Bank in October 1945. He married Marion Gackle on July 25, 1943. They had two sons and a daughter. In 1949 he became cashier at the Kulm State Bank and in 1958 he became director. In January 1968 he purchased the bank and continued to work there until January 1984 when he retired. After retiring, he spent the winters at his home in Yuma, Ariz. He was a member of the Kulm American Legion, Kulm Volunteer Fire Department, Elks, Eagles, Kulm Lions Club, Kulm Country Club and Kulm Congregational Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, cards, driving, wildlife and cafes.

He is survived by a son, Bill (Diane), Camas, Wash.; a daughter, Rita (Viv) Humann, Kingman, Ariz.; a daughter-in-law, Penny (Jason) Jans McClean; a brother, Bill (Lorraine), Fargo, N.D.; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Kulm Congregational Church. Arrangements with Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Kulm.

Frances Jaskier, 84, Valley City, N.D., died Tuesday, May 13, 2003, at the Sheyenne Care Center, Valley City.

Frances Zuber was born Feb. 6, 1919, in Vashti, near Woodworth, N.D., the daughter of Jospeh and Frances (Wojcek) Zuber. She attended rural schools near there. She lived in Chicago, Ill., working for Western Electric. She returned to North Dakota in 1948 and worked for a seed company in Bismarck. She married Stanley Jaskier on Sept. 24, 1956, in Jamestown. He died June 5, 1977. She lived at Gackle (N.D.) Care Center and Bethel Four Acres, Jamestown. She later became a resident of Sheyenne Care Center.

She is survived by a brother, Antone, Maryland; a sister, Sophia Marchi, Chicago; and a sister-in-law, Lorraine Zuber, Jamestown.

She was preceded in death by her husband; three brothers, John, Walter and Frank; and two sisters, Mildred Gallagher and Marie Ranos.

Donna Mae Jenner, 74, Osnabrock, N.D., formerly of Kulm, N.D., died Thursday, Oct. 27, 2005, at Good Samaritan Center, Osnabrock, after a long illness.

Donna Mae Jenner was born Nov. 27, 1930, at Kulm, the daughter of Edmund and Julia (Fedje) Jenner. She was baptized and confirmed in Zion Lutheran Church, Kulm. She was educated in the rural and Kulm school system and graduated from Kulm High School in 1949. She attended Valley City (N.D.) State College and received a degree in education. She taught in several schools in North Dakota, including LaMoure, Beulah and Strausburg, and in Browning, Mont. In 1972, she returned to the family farm to care for her mother and uncle. She was an agent for Stanley Products and Avon Cosmetics. She later moved to the Gackle (N.D.) Care Center. In 2002, she moved to the Good Samaritan Center. She enjoyed helping her neighbors.

Eldo Jenner, 96, Kulm, N.D., died Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009, at the Wishek Community Hospital, Wishek, N.D.

Mr. Jenner was born Jan. 18, 1913, in Kulm, the son of Henry Jenner and Theresa (Schulz) Jenner. He grew up and attended school in Gackle, N.D., graduating from Gackle High School, Gackle, in 1931. He worked in fruit orchards in Washington and California. In 1938 he began operating the pool hall and bowling alley in Kulm. He joined the U.S. Navy on April 15, 1942, and served in Dutch Harbor, Alaska. He was discharged Sept. 19, 1945, with the rank of yeoman third class. He married Mabel Ogren on July 7, 1942, in Seattle, Wash. They moved to Lodi, Calif. where he operated the 45 Club Bar. In 1947 they purchased a Hotel/Café in Oakley, Calif., and also raised cattle. Upon their retirement in 1973 they moved to Brentwood, Calif. In Oct. 2002, they moved to Kulm. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Kulm, and the Lions Club and American Legion. He enjoyed collecting coins, trap shooting, hunting ducks and pheasants, canning fruit and horse racing.

He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; a brother, Elmo; and a sister, Viona.

Vivian Jensvold, 92, Jamestown, died Sunday, Nov. 29, 20090, at James-town Hospital, Jamestown.

Vivian Irene Flaig was born Aug. 20, 1917, near Alfred, N.D., the daughter of Daniel and Martha (Mueller) Flaig. She attended area schools and graduated from Jamestown High School in 1935. She married Miles Jensvold in Cooperstown, N.D. They moved to Jamestown following after he completed his tour of duty with the U.S. Air Corps. He died June 14, 1998. She was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Jamestown. She enjoyed sewing, cake decorating and bird watching.

She is survived by three daughters, Darnelle (Stanley) Dunn, Joan Trujillo and Claudette Jensvold; a brother, Elmer (Frances); a step-granddaughter; two great-grandsons; and a special friend, Aaron Elstad.

She was preceded in death by her husband; an infant daughter; her parents; two sisters, Gladys Cool and Myrtle Poseley; and a brother, Dale.

Albert Jerke, 84, of Miles City died of natural causes on Saturday, March 28, 2009, in Miles City Holy Rosary Hospice. His immediate family kept vigil over him until his death, releasing him from this earth into heaven.

Mr. Jerke was born on Oct. 19, 1924, to Edward and Mathilda Kramlich Jerke in Gackle, N.D.

Mr. Jerke and his wife, Lorraine, were married in Red Lodge in 1949 and subsequently raised their three children on a farm west of Terry. Mr. Jerke’s working life resulted in becoming a master farmer, cattleman and trucker. He was a Buffalo Rapids board member, affiliated with the National Farmer’s Organization, and league-bowled in Miles City for many years.

Cattle and machinery auction sales were among his favorite things, along with visiting with people. After leaving Terry, Mr. Jerke continued his passions by working with his sons in the Jerke Livestock Trucking Company and on the Lazy V Ranch south of Miles City. Winter wheat farming and long-haul trucking over three million miles were among his many achievements.

His survivors include his wife Lorraine Jerke, sons Larry (Sue) and Dana (Kim) Jerke all of Miles City and daughter Bonnie Jerke of Newberg, Ore.; his beloved grandchildren: Nick (Kira) Jerke, Brendon Jerke of Miles City and Rhianna (Mike) Tonn of Livingston; and great-grandchildren, his son’s Nick’s children, Kyle and Asha.

He also is survived by two brothers: Elmer (Barb) Jerke of Bozeman and Daryl (Bonnie) Jerke of Billings; four sisters: Alice Schroeber of Miles City, Delores Engel and JoAnn (Lyle) Peil both of Billings and Darlene (Leo) Solf of Winnett; one uncle: Christ Jerke and two aunts: Leah Jerke and Leah Kramlich, all in North Dakota; and lots of nieces, nephews and cousins — too many to list or mention.

Mr. Jerke was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Arnold Jerke and Daymon Jerke; and one sister, Delphine.

Funeral services will be Thursday, April 2, 2009, at 11 a.m. at Stevenson and Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Interment will follow in the Custer County Cemetery.

He lived on a farm near Cleveland, N.D., until he was five years old, when the family moved to a farm near Gackle. He attended Gackle School and graduated from Gackle High School. He attended a business college in Fargo, N.D. He enjoyed driving school bus, tour buses and appointment driving for Gackle Care Center. He owned and operated a trucking business and farmed with his father. He married Ann Henke on Jan. 8, 1996, at Aberdeen, S.D. They lived on the farm north of Gackle. He was a member of Gackle United Church of Christ and served on the church board. He also served on the township board. He enjoyed reading, gardening, music and roundtable coffee time.

He is survived by his wife; father, Gackle; a sister, Arlene Clifton, Ownings Mills, Md.; three stepdaughters, Leslie Dockter, New Rockford, N.D., Camille Weixel, Eau Claire, Wis., and Amy (Shaun) Duffield, Lutz, Fla.; two grandchildren; and special friends Chance and Harlie Wilson.

He was preceded in death by his mother; a brother, Lloyd; and a brother-in-law, Ray Clifton.

Magdalina Sukut was born Sept. 7, 1914, near Wishek, N.D., where she grew up and attended school. On Nov. 12, 1944, she married August Jerke. They lived in California where they worked in the shipyards during World War II. They then returned to Wishek where they farmed. In 1950 they moved to a farm near Tappen, N.D. They retired in 1968 and moved to Jamestown in 1976. He died in 1978. In 1994 she entered the Post House in Jamestown.

She is survived by a son, Bob (Kathy), Mandan, N.D., a daughter, Vangie (Jay) Olson, Devils Lake, N.D.; three brothers, Andy (Eileen) Sukut, the Rev. Walter (Barbara) Sukut, both Brandenton, Fla., Morris (Freida) Sukut, Billings, Mont.; two sisters, Viola Koenig, Bakersfield, Calif., Martha (Otto) Neumiller, Olympia, Wash.; and four grandchildren.

Hulda Jesser, 84, Moorhead, Minn., died Thursday, April 3, 1997, in Eventide Nursing Home, Moorhead. Hulda Brenneise was born June 24, 1912, near Streeter, N.D., where she grew up. She attended school near Streeter and in Napoleon, N.D. On October 6, 1929, she married Henry Jesser in Streeter. They farmed in Underwood, N.D., and Turtle Lake, N.D. In 1959 they moved to Bismarck, N.D. In 1973 they moved to Streeter. He died in 1973. She moved to Medina, N.D. in 1983. In 1990 she moved to Moorhead. She entered Eventide Nursing Home in 1995. She is survived by two sons, Delton, Moorhead, Clinton, DeKalb, Ill.; two sisters, Martha Grenz, Bismarck, Freda Dockter, MeQuon, Wis.; six ...

Adolph Job, 91, Wishek, N.D., died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2007, at Wishek Home for the Aged, Wishek.

Mr. Job was born Oct. 14, 1915, at Kidder County, North Dakota, near Dawson, the son of Jacob and Caroline (Entzi) Job. He grew up in the area and received his elementary education at the local rural school. He then helped on the family farm. He married Lena Reuer on Sept. 8, 1938, at Streeter, N.D. They lived and farmed south of Dawson. They retired in 1979 and moved to Napoleon, N.D. She died in 1990. In September 2002, he moved to Golden Manor, Steele, N.D. In 2003, he moved to Wishek Home for the Aged. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Napoleon, where he served on the church council. He was also a member of the township board.

He is survived by a daughter, Darlene (Gordon) Walth, Wishek; a son Leroy, Bismarck, N.D.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; a daughter-in-law, Connie; two brothers; and three sisters.

Services: 1:30 p.m. Monday, Trinity Lutheran Church, Napoleon, with the Rev. Richard Hagenstuen officiating.
Visitation: noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, Haut Funeral Homes, Wishek, and one hour before the service at the church.
Burial: Napoleon Cemetery, Napoleon.

Arthur Job, 86, Medina, died Friday, May 28, 2004, at Medcenter One in Bismarck.

Mr. Job was born July 27, 1917, in Streeter, the son of Frederick and Magdalena (Steib) Job. After working at several jobs on the West Coast, he returned home and attended a technical mechanic school in Chicago. He then entered the U.S. Army at Fort Snelling, MN, on his birthday in 1942.

Bertha Job, Jamestown , died Sept. 24, 2008 at age 100 in Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Home, Jamestown .

Bertha Zimmerman was born August 22, 1908 near Streeter, the daughter of Jacob and Katherina (Pfeifle) Zimmerman. She attended rural school in Logan County . On December 5, 1929 Bertha married Edward Job in Streeter.

Ernest Job, age 79, of Miles City formerly of Great Falls passed away on Monday, November 23, 2009 at the VA Nursing Home in Miles City.

Mr. Job was born to Jacob and Christina Job on January 13, 1930 on his parents farm near Jud, North Dakota. After serving his country in Korea during the Korean Conflict, he became a heavy equipment operator, working in many of the western states, until he retired in 1989. He then managed a bison ranch in Ione, Nevada until he hung up his spurs and moved to Gabbs, Nevada. In 2006, he moved to Great Falls, Montana to live with his daughter. He has resided at the VA Nursing home since 2008.

Mr. Job is survived by his daughter, Debby (Dan) Metcalf of Black Eagle, MT; two sons: Kenneth Job of Missouri; and Steven Job of Portland, OR; sisters Lillian Skattum of Adrian, ND, Elsie Dallman of The Dalles, OR; brothers Walter of Windsor, ND and Donald of Vancouver, WA; five grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ernest was preceded in death by his sisters: Eva Miller, Katie Hollingsworth, Ida Oberlander, Viola Roth, Betty Ost, and his brothers: Ludwig, Elmer, Arthur and Harold; and a grandson, Robert James Stampka.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, November 30, 2009 at the VA Chapel in Miles City. Interment will follow in the Eastern Montana State Veteran’s Cemetery with full military honors. Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home of Miles City is in charge of the arrangements.

Ludwig L. Job, 87, Nortonville, N.D., died Tuesday, June 25, 2002, at MeritCare Hospital, Fargo, N.D.

Mr. Job was born Dec. 11, 1914, near Streeter, N.D., the son of Jacob L. and Eva (Mayer) Job. He grew up and attended school near Jud, N.D. He married Magda Egerdahl on Oct. 2, 1940, at Edgeley, N.D. They lived on a farm near Nortonville until 1947, when they moved to their present home east of Nortonville. He retired in 1976. He enjoyed woodworking, making lawn ornaments, reading the Bible, fishing, traveling and visiting.

He is survived by his wife; four sons, LeRoy, Montpelier, N.D., Roger, Nortonville, John (Jacque), Holt, Mo., and Noel, Kansas City, Kan.; six daughters, Darlene (Haze) Wolfe, Leesburg, Fla., Shirley (Craig) Leonard, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Della Job and Karen (Jerry) Cichos, both Bismarck, N.D., Geraldine Job, Stuart, Fla., and Donna (Gary) Rothwell, Jamestown; a daughter-in-law, Sue Job, Fargo; two sisters, Katherine Hollingsworth, Virginia, and Eva Mueller, Gackle, N.D.; four half sisters, Betty Ost, Bismarck, Elsie (Walter) Dallman and Edna (Ronald) Smith, both Portland, Ore., Lillian Skattum, Montpelier; two half brothers, Walter "Buddy" Job, Windsor, N.D., and Donald Job, Portland; 20 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Clayton; a daughter, LeVerne; a sister, Ida Oberlander; a half sister, Viola; and four half brothers, Elmer, Harold, Ernest and Art.

Brent Johnson, 51, Gackle, N.D., died Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2010, at Wishek Hospital, Wishek, N.D.

Mr. Johnson was born Feb. 17, 1959, at Jamestown, the son of Lloyd M. and Delores J. (Mayer) Johnson. He attended Gackle Public School, Gackle. He married Tina Gattie in Lake Andes, S.D. They lived in Devils Lake, N.D., where he worked construction. They moved to Mitchell, S.D., and later returned to Gackle. He worked for Double J Manufacturing from 2007 to 2010.

He is survived by his mother, Gackle; three stepsons, Michael Buckingham, North Carolina, and Douglas Gattie and Derek Gattie, both Pierre, S.D.; a stepdaughter, Melissa Buckingham, Pierre, S.D.; a sister, Denise (Sheldon Stein) Wentz, Mandan, N.D.; two brothers, Brian, Valley City, N.D., and Brett, Gackle; and 10 grandchildren.

Mr. Charles S. Johnson, 70, of Greensboro, died Saturday, July 24, 2004, at his residence, after a courageous battle with cancer.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Forbis & Dick Guilford Chapel on W. Friendly Ave.

Before his retirement from Smith Turf & Irrigation Co. in 1998, Mr. Johnson worked with Lofts Pedigreed Seed, Inc., F.W. Bolgiano in Washington, DC., and Princeton Turf Farm in Centreville, Md. Mr. Johnson was a member of the Mid Atlantic and Carolinas Golf Course Superintendents Association and also served as a board member for the Brandywine Homeowners Association. He was on the board of directors for the Landscape Contractors of Metropolitan Washington and a member of the Professional Grounds Maintenance Society, Virginia Turfgrass Council and Delaware Turfgrass Association. After his retirement, Charlie worked for Rice Toyota in Greensboro. He was of the Episcopal faith and was active with First Presbyterian Church.

Mr. Johnson is survived by his children, Cynthia Johnson and her husband, Larry Stromberg of New Mexico, Kirk Johnson and his wife, Lisa of Oklahoma, Eric Johnson of Greensboro; brothers, Hans Johnson and his wife, Jean of Virginia, Edward Johnson and his wife, Barbara of Maryland, Richard Johnson and his wife, Elaine of Texas; grandchildren, Anders Stromberg and Nathan Johnson; and loving friend, Margaret Johnson of Greensboro.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home following the memorial service.

Mary Johnson, 95, Napoleon, N.D., died Friday, Oct. 29, 2010, at Napoleon Care Center, Napoleon.

Mary Dorr was born Sept. 5, 1915, at the family farm southwest of Gackle, N.D., the daughter of Carl and Lydia (Tchmerschnook) Dorr. She grew up, attended country school and later went to work for various families. She married Lawrence Johnson Feb. 14, 1941, on her family’s farm. They farmed and ranched 8 miles northeast of Napoleon in Glendale Township. He died in 1976. She remained on the farm until 1994 when she moved into Napoleon. She entered Napoleon Care Center in 2006. She enjoyed knitting hanger guards.

She is survived by two sons, James (Luci) and Robert (Pam), both of Bismarck, N.D.; three daughters, Ginger (Robert) Bendickson, Thief River Falls, Minn., Charlette (Lowell) Abbas, Courtland, Minn., and Brenda (Curtis) Eichele, Driscoll, N.D.; a son-in-law, Orville Bail, Morristown, S.D.; 17 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents, a daughter, Margie Bail; five brothers, Carl, John, Albert, George and Gust; three sisters, Lizzie, Martha and Esther; and a grandson, Max Abbas.

Floyd Johnston, 93, Jamestown, died Friday, Jan. 12, 2001, at Jamestown Hospital, Jamestown.

Mr. Johnston was born Jan. 2, 1908, in Derby, Iowa, the son of Joseph and Elsie (Boylan) Johnston. He attended rural schools and helped on the family farm. He married Ada Fode on Oct. 17, 1929, in Fredonia, N.D. They farmed for a short time in the Jud and Alfred, N.D., areas. In 1957 they moved to Montevideo, Minn., and lived there for 30 years. He worked for Lutheran Haven Nursing Home and MTI Technologies in Montevideo. In 1987 they moved to Jamestown. She died March 13, 1990.

He is survived by four daughters, June (Henry) Fietzek, Montpelier, N.D., Janice Fietzek, Jamestown, Joyce Ditto, Pensacola, Fla., and Jeanne (Jack) Eckert, Maple Grove, Minn.; a son, Jerald, Houma, La.; 18 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; two sons, Jerome and James "Jim"; a grandson, Jimmy J.; a son-in-law, Dan Ditto; three sisters and three brothers.

Mr. Johs was born Dec. 10, 1909, on his parents’ farm in Shell Butte Township, Logan County, North Dakota, the son of Johann and Johanna (Schwartzenberger) Johs. He started school in 1920. When he was 16 his father died, and he assumed much of the responsibility in assisting his mother in the farm’s operation. He married Mary Ann Schmidt on Oct. 25, 1932, at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Napoleon. They moved to a farm southwest of Napoleon. He later moved to Napoleon and for the past year was a resident of Napoleon Care Center. He was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church and a 45-year member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, serving 10 years in the church choir, as a trustee, on the Fargo Diocesan Development Program and various church committees. He was also a member of Napoleon Golden Age Club, Logan County Farmers Union, Logan County Area Soil Conservation Committee, Weigel School Board, Red Cross Fund Drive, Logan Home for the Aged and Logan Historical Society. He joined the Jamestown Knights of Columbus, later belonging to the Napoleon Council, where he was a member for 36 years. He was an honorary life member of the Knights of Columbus and a third-degree knight. He enjoyed playing cards.

He is survived by six sons, Hilbert (Kathleen), Wayne, Neb., Perry (Carol), Blaine, Minn., Joe (Judy) and Albert (Mary), both Bismarck, N.D., Myron, Lisbon, N.D., and Marty, Gackle, N.D.; two daughters, Viola (Chris) Leier, Linton, N.D., and Sally (Jerry) Feist, Big Lake, Minn.; a brother, Adam (Sally), Napoleon; two sisters, Mary Ann Weigel and Johanna Horner, both Napoleon; 23 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; a son, Leo; a grandson; three brothers; and two sisters.

Freda Jones, 90, Jamestown, died Sunday, April 21, 2002, at Central Dakota Village, Jamestown.

Freda L. Heiser was born Nov. 8, 1911, at Streeter, N.D., the daughter of Jacob and Fredrika (Furst) Heiser. She grew up and attended school in Streeter. She attended Capital Commercial College, Bismarck, N.D. She worked at the North Dakota State Capitol. She married John J. Jones on Nov. 7, 1931, in Bismarck. They lived in Anchorage, Alaska, and Missoula, Mont. In 1942 they moved to Seattle, Wash., where she worked for Boeing Manufacturing until 1945. He died on Nov. 1, 1957. In 1959 she returned to Jamestown, and was employed by the North State Hospital from 1960 until retiring in 1977. She was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ, active in the V.F.W., and volunteered at Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Home, Jamestown. She enjoyed gardening and helping others.

She is survived by a sister, Martha Reglin, Aberdeen, Wash.; a sister-in-law, Lydia Heiser, Worland, Wyo.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two brothers, and two sisters.

Freda L. Jones, 90, Jamestown, died Sunday, April 21, 2002, in Central Dakota Village, Jamestown.

Freda L. Heiser was born Nov. 8, 1911, in Streeter, N.D., where she grew up and attended school. She attended Capital Commercial College, Bismarck, N.D., then worked at the North Dakota State Capitol. She married John J. Jones Nov. 7, 1931, in Bismarck. Milton Joslin, 75, Denver, passed away March 13, 2009, after fighting Lou Gerhig disease for 10 years.

Milt graduated from Jamestown High and entered the Navy, serving 3 years during the Korean War. He returned and went to Jamestown College where he excelled as the quarterback on the football team for 4 years along with younger brother Ronald. They were both voted into the Jamestown College Sports Hall of Fame.

Milt is survived by wife Marilyn and 7 children, of Denver, CO., 3 brothers Red Joslin USAF Ret of Austin, TX., Les Joslin US NAVY RET and Ron Joslin RET. of Tucson, AZ., sister Linda Dale of Lynnwood WA.

He will be missed by his friends and relatives, who will miss his many jokes and sayings, one of which was his last saying on this earth. Unless you were a great athlete you could not get this disease. That is the way he thought of the ailment that took his life.

Milton J. Joslin a native of Jamestown N. Dak. passed away March 13, 2009 at the age of 75.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years also a native of Jamestown, N. Dak. Marilyn (Sauter) Joslin. 7 children: Mike, Mitch, Miles, Mark wife Shaun, Melissa, Matt and Mindy. 12 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, 3 brothers Red, Les wife Shirley, Ron Wife Joann, Sister Linda Husband Pat, brother in-law who resides in Jamestown Bill Sauter I, sister in-law, who also resides in Jamestown Deloris Mosher. Several nieces and nephews.

Milt was veteran of the Korean War, a collegiate hall of fame football player, golden Gloves Bowling Champion, high school teacher and athlete coach, and an avid golfer. He retired from a career in the insurance business. We love and miss you.
