created. It was named for the Lackawanna River.
"I am in possession of a copy of a Schwartz Family List, the
copy I have was sent from Lucetta Miller to Her Brother Charles
O. Miller (My great Grandfather). There is no author on this
document, but the original was printed and has since been copied
a few times. Many of our relatives have a copy, or know of it.
It has very little information other than the descendants of
John Schwartz from Schwartzennburg. It only lists George W. as
being a child of Henry Schwartz and Mellissa Miller. His wife
and child as well as the dates and George's middle name came
from ancestory.com (Angel Trapp)."
George W. Swartz, b 1837, md Harriett E. Brant, md 2nd Susan
-------3 children by first wife, 2 children by second wife. Geo
W. m. lived in Carolina; Arhtur W., Charles d in infancy,
Melissa Malvina d 1939 and Anna.
"Melissa Miller Swartz was born in 1808. One source lists she
married Henry Swartz of EASTON, PA. They had a son George W.
Then my info goes on to give a little detail on this George W.
Married Harriet Brant (Brantd) first, and they had Melivina,
Melissa, William and Arthur. THEN he married 2nd MISS SUE (A
SOUTHERN LADY) and their children were Harriet and Lorissa.
Third wife was Emma Crawford (another southern lady) and their
child was George W. This info come from a sheet sent to me from
a late distant cousin who resided in Alabama, and it was sent
back in 1981. But it appears to have been originally written
in 1901 (or so my notation states). Back in 1977 this cousin,
Sally McMurray, and I got connected. She is connected to me
through the Ross Family (Mary Jane Swartz, a brother to this Geo
W, married a Ross). Her great grandfather and mine were
brothers. Her family ended up in Ohio, then moved onward from
there. She had an Aunt, Ruth Curran, who back in the 1970's
lived in CA, I used to write to her as well, and she and my
grandfather were cousins. (Geo W would have been her great
Uncle) That paper was one she sent up to me, it was a copy. The
original was done in old typeset and wasn't the best, so I
retyped it back in 1981. My notes show I received it in 1977 as
well. The assumption of the 1901 date had to do with a remark
made within the group of papers about Hosie Phillips (Jr) still
being alive, gave an approximation of his age, etc..... but it
is also possible that parts of this Original was taken from
another source that was done in 1901. There are no signatures on
it as to the Compiler, nor any sources for the information
given..Anyways....I have found that information listed on this
sheet has been pretty much "on the money". It wouldn't surprise
me if Huldah Brown and my great aunt Pearl Ross had something to
do with this info as well for they were both "heart & Soul" into
genealogy....much of Huldah's work seems to be used as a
reference or deemed the "bible" in this family's
research........If this is your George, he would trace back to
the Baltzer (Leobaltzer) line, which comes from Johann Martin
Schwartz. I can send you a little bit on this as well........I
have never saw any reference to a "Woodson" name
tho.........But, if this is true then your lineage through
Melissa Miller will trace back through Deacon John Phillips of
Abington, whose lineage traces back (and is documented) to
Pilgrim George Soule of the Mayflower!!! You would be eligible
to join the Mayflower Society (should you desire) as long as you
can prove descendancy to about Deacon John Phillips.(I think
he's the one you have to go back to...as you can tell, I never
bothered with signing up!) Digest this, and let me know why you
what really sets it to you that Geo W is Melissa's son. (Other
than any of my surmising of course!) It would be my assumption
that Harriet Brandt was probably from PA (at least that's where
I would start looking for her) since there was mention that the
other 2 were "southern ladies". I will keep my eyes open while
getting my files sorted to see if I come across any further
notes. Sue P."
