Notes

"Will: 16 DEC 1773 Probate: 4 JAN 1781 King George County, Virginia. "Howson" appears to be a variant of the Welsh. Another variant is Hugh.

In the Prince William County Deed Book Q, 1763-1768, dated 1st August, 1763:
"To all to whom these presents shall come, the tract of land given by Houson Hooe and Ann Frances his wife by Deed of Gift bearing date the 26th August 1751 unto their two sons, Houson and John Hooe to be equally divided." This land was "known by the name of Buckhall Tract."

Howson owned a considerable amount of land and slaves. He was a member of St. Paul's Parish. All of his children except one appear on the baptismal register of St. Paul's Parish.

He names his wife, Anne Frances Harris Hooe, as one of the benefactors of his will. No daughters were named in the will. Five sons were named. They were Howson, John, Harris, Bernard, and William."

ID Number: I33314

  • RESIDENCE: Williamsburg Dist. Craven Co. SC
  • BIRTH: ABT 1750
  • DEATH: Williamsburgh Dist. Craven Co. SC

Father: (RESEARCH FAMILY SURNAME) PRESSLEY PRIESTLY

Family 1 : Eleanor ORR
  1. +John PRESSLEY
  2. +Margaret PRESSLEY

Notes

"They lived on the Western side of Black River above what, in my time was known as the Lower Bridge, and had that name long before I was born. He died and is buried in a private grave yard on Hawthorn Swamp. After the death of William Pressley, his widow moved to Heitly's Creek waster of Black River, and settled near where there is an old dam across the creek. The waters from one end of the pond run into of down Heitly's Creek and from the other end in a westerly direction down Long Branch by my father's homestead (now Brockinton's house) into Turkey Creek. I may be wrong about the direction in which this water runs. I remember that there is a continuous stream from the pond to Turkey Creek, but the waters may divide, and after reflection, I believe they do divide at a point on the stream westwardly from the pond. So many years have elapsed since I have been over the woods there, that while I remember places well, I have forgotten some of the details. Eleanor the widow after her removal, married one Boyd. I do not know where he came from, or anything of history." [S1246]
