The mother of William's children was either Mary Lou Ellen Lewis
or Martha Horn. This is evident because all of Williams children
were born prior to his marraige to Mourning Pope.
He was married to Martha HORN before 1761 and Mary Lewis. He
was married to Mourning Thomas POPE (daughter of Jacob POPE and
Jane) on 13 Nov 1761.

" the twice married Isabella Stewart of Albany in a discharge
dated 10 December 1443 was styled "Dame Elizabeth Haliburton,
countess of Ross," taking the rank of her first husband,
Alexander Lesley, Earl of Ross, and the surname of her second
husband, Sir Walter Haliburton of Dirleton-"
The above is in a discussion about the identity of the wife of
Alexander Macdonald 10th Earl Ross & Lord of Isles, in the fall
2003 issue of THE GENEALOGIST, in an article by Andrew B. W.
MacEwen, beginning at 222, on Cristina de Brus, Countess of
Dunbar. At page 225, the author, as an illustration of the
difficulty in sometimes determining a woman's maiden name.
However "note of a discharge" mentioning "Dame Elizabeth
Haliburton, countess of Ross, is dated 40 years after Isabel (of
Albany) Stewart first husband's death and close to that after
her second marriage. With a birth date of Abt. 1363 that would
make her about 80 at the time of the discharge, if it does
indeed refer to her. It also seems a bit unlikely that Isabel
(of Albany) Stewart was about 35 at the time of her first
marriage. So perhaps the birth date of Abt. 1363 is mistaken and
something more like 1380 would be more accurate, unless other
documents contradict that.
