David W. Fox, 33, aged 33, well known drilling contractor, of Waynesburg, who died Tuesday morning, June 20, in the Greene County Memorial hospital. The services were held at 2:30 in the First Methodist Episcopal church, with the pastor, Rev. C. C. Fisher, in charge. Interment was in Rosemont cemetery, Rogersville.
His death was due to complications following an operation for appendicitis, He was believed to be well on the road to recovery and had been removed to his home on South Washington street, but he suffered a relapse and had to be returned to the hospital Monday afternoon for another operation. He apparently was rallying nicely from this operation, but his condition became serious early Tuesday morning and his death followed a few hours later.
Mr. Fox was one of Waynesburg’s most prominent and enterprising young business men and had been engaged in the drilling contracting business in the oil and gas fields of this district for several years. He was an active member of the First Methodist Episcopal church of Waynesburg, being a member of the board of trustees, and was a member of the Men’s Bible class of the Sunday school. Fraternally, he was a member of the Waynesburg Lodge No. 153, F. and A. M., and the Pittsburgh Consistory. A son of Ellsworth and Celeste Wise Fox, he was born February 5, 1900, at Fairview, W. Va., but later the family removed to Graysville, where he resided for several years. For the past five years the family has lived in Waynesburg, on South Washington street. He married Miss Pearle Supler, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Supler, of Ryerson Station, who survives with two daughters, Peggy and Betty, at home. Besides his wife and children he leaves his parents and the following brothers and sisters: J. A. Fox, of Washington; O. M. Fox, of Cameron, W. Va.; Mrs. Francis Brough, of Graysville, and Mrs. Louella Stickles, of Rochester, Pa. Another sister, Mrs. Eva Ely, is deceased.
