Elisha enlisted in the Union army on September 16 1861.
He was taken prisoner at the battle of Marks Mills, Arkansas on April 25, 1864 and
was released on a prisoner exchange on February 25, 1865.
He mustered out on March 17, 1865.

In the 1880 census Elisha ia a prisoner in Indiana State Prison South in Jeffersonville township, Clark county, Illinois. |
Sarah and three of their children are living in Center township, Greene county, Indiana. |
Elisha died in 1893. Sarah married Jerome Sparks on April 23, 1889; in the 1900 census they are living together in Center township, Greene county, Indiana. Sarah is shown as having one living child; this is apparently John. |
In the 1910 census they are still in Center township. |
In the 1920 census Sarah is living with her son John in Washington township, Greene county, Indiana and is shown as widowed. |
Sarah died on October 22, 1925. |
