Newsletter," vol. 5, no. 1 (Jan-June 1987), p. 15: "In my book,
I indicated that Peter Bland had two wives, Judith Booker and
Rebecca Spiceley. Robert Bland of Deland, Florida sent me a copy
of Peter's will, made in Amelia County, Virginia, September 14,
1779. The 1779 will adds validity to the date of death. Also, it
shows that Peter styled himself "Peter Randolph Bland." His wife
in 1779, though not identified in the will by name, was Judith
Booker, who survived him. This indicates that Rebecca Spiceley
was a first wife and that there were no children or that there
was no Rebecca in Peter's life. . . .
A property division in December 1786, as well as the will shows
Peter Randolph Bland (1736-1781) had four children, sons Richard
(co-executor of Peter's will with Judith Booker), probably the
eldest son, and Peter Bland, both legal adults, as well as minor
children Edward (1767-1831) and Anne. Peter was a man of means,
dispensing of 1,026 acres in Amelia County to his three sons,
and 75 slaves divided between all his children (see below, p.
18)."
From "Historical and Genealogical Notes," William and Mary
Quarterly, vol. 26, no. 2 (October 1917), p. 139: "Peter Bland,
son of Col. Richard Bland, the statesman of the American
Revolution, and Anne Poythress, his wife, was born Feb. 2,
1736-37, and died Feb. 9, 1781. (Richmond Critic, July 23,
1888). On October 22, 1761, he executed a bond to marry Judith
Booker (William and Mary Quarterly, XV., 260). They were
probably parents of Peter Bland, of Nottoway County, who with
his wife, Martha Wallace, made a deed in 1811 to John Bland.
(Ibid., XXVI., 46). Their daughter Judith married Francis Nash
(Ibid., XXVI., 48), and their daughter Martha Wallace 'married
William Anderson Taylor.' (A letter from R. T. Williamson, of
Keeling, Tennessee, states that he is descended from 'Peter
Bland, whose mother was a Booker.' After reverses of fortune,
Peter Bland's family removed to St. Louis Co., Missouri. His
daughter, Martha Wallace Bland, married as above stated and was
the grandmother of said R. T. Williamson.)"
