progenitor of line: Edward Mozingo Sr Birth: 1650 in Richmond
County, VA Death: May 07 1712 in Richmond County, VA. and
Margaret Pierce~Bayley (Wife) b. Bet. 1645 - 1650 in Colonial
Virginia
Edward and John were the only sons mentioned in Edward Mozingo"s
will of 1711 b. Abt 1641 D. 1712. He also mentioned his wife,
Margaret. It is uncertain if Margaret was a Bayley or Pierce
prior to marrying Edward Mozingo. These surnames are supposition
and no proof has been found to prove otherwise her maiden name
was either PIERCE or BAYLEY. We are uncertain what became of
Peter Mozingo and Michael Mozingo. Peter Mozingo - Peter
Masangle may have been a son, a brother, a cousin to Edward
Mozingo. The relationship has not firmly been established. One
court record of 1697 stated Peter Mozingo/Masangle was a witness
in a court case along with others: Anthony Atkinson, Samuel
Baker, and Ann Sutton.
The family history detailed in FTM is for Edward and John
Mozingo's families. Some descendants stayed in the Richmond
County area of Virginia, others migrated to Culpeper, Virginia,
Campbell Co. Tennessee, and Nodaway, Missouri. Descendants of
Edward Mozingo, 2nd -John Mozingo born Abt. 1705 migrated first
to Edgecombe County, North Carolina ca. 1743 then to Old
Johnston County, North Carolina 1756 and Dobbs County, North
Carolina. His descendants and their families are still living in
these surrounding counties of Wayne, Lenoir, Greene, Pitt
Counties.
Some of his descendants migrated to Darlington, South Carolina,
Leon County, Florida, Bibb and Tuscaloosa County, Alabama, Wayne
County, Mississippi, Houston County, Georgia, Minden County,
Louisiana, and Texas.
Many of the Mozingo men fought and served in the Colonial Wars,
Revolutionary War, War of 1812, the Civil War, WW1, WW2, Korean
War, Vietnam War, etc.
