Col. Robert MARTIN

ABT 1790 - BET 1845 AND 0000

ID Number: I9452

  • TITLE: Col.
  • RESIDENCE: Union Co. SC
  • BIRTH: ABT 1790, Prob. Charleston Dist. SC
  • DEATH: BET 1845 AND 0000
  • RESOURCES: See: [S320] [S322]
Father: Robert MARTIN "the Immigrant"
Mother: Agnes "Nancy" LINDSAY

Family 1 : Jane BOBO

Notes

They resided in Spartanburg County and their children were: Cornelius, Spencer, Jefferson, William, Laura, Amanda, Barham, Robert. Spartanburg County, 1810 census and later. Col Martin is listed on the 1850 Mortality List.

Barrum Bobo in his will of 1829 named his son in law Robert Martin as an exor., and one of Barrum's daughters was named Jane L. (no last name in the abstract.) (Holcomb, p. 122; citing Union Wills B:152-156.) Could Jane L. have been Janet S? (S & L script looks alike.)

"Barrum Bobo in his 1829 will refers to son-in-law Robert Martin: ...I find Col. Robert Martin, brother-in-law of Barham F. Bobo in Allen Charles' account of the murder/duel/manslaughter of Bahram F. Bobo (he was present when Bobo died)."

James & Jane McCants Lindsay wills, 1813/1814, Robert Martin my grandson, executor.

Robert Martin to represent Agness, Elizabeth & Ann in share of Jean Lindsay due from her brother James McCants est. probated 1816 in E. Feliciana Parish, LA.

Robert MARTIN, Jr. of Union County, SC, also styled "Col."Robert Martin, grandson of Mrs. Jean Lindsay, married Jane Bobo. They resided Union Co., SC, where Mrs. Jane Bobo Martin appears on the 1850 census as a recent widow. Robert Martin, Jr., was born about 1790-1792, based on an analysis of his census records. He was probably born in Charleston District, SC.

believe it was either Janie Weaver and/or David Bishop that informed me that Robert Martin, Jr., married Jane Bobo, daughter of Barham Bobo and Frances Woodson. They resided in Spartanburg County and their children were:
Cornelius, Spencer, Jefferson, William, Laura, Amanda, Barham, Robert

I have not independently confirmed the names of the children of Robert Martin, Jr., but have
confirmed that he was residing in Spartanburg County, 1810 census and later.

If I remember correctly, David Bishop is a descendant of Robert Martin, Jr., and Jane Bobo
and he is actively researching that line. This is a little cold, so my memory may be hazy.

Janie Weaver descends from Samuel Martin and Eleanor Young Martin. Samuel has been purported to be one of the five or six sons of Robert Martin, Sr. He died young in Spartanburg County, then Eleanor relocated to Calhoun County, GA, where she resided near my ancestor, James Martin, who lived in Randolph County near the Calhoun County line.
Today I found Eleanor's death recorded on the 1860 Mortality Schedule. Her age was listed as 47.
