"I am the 5th Great-Granddaughter of William Shell b Abt 1728
who was married 1st to Amelia Ellis, my 5th Great-GrandMother.
My line continues: Harmon, James E., Wm Berry, Geo. Bryant and
Toombs Franklin. Thanks so much for a trip to such a wonderful
piece of work!"
CONFLICT of birthdate on William Shell: b. abt 1728. "On
Harmon Shell's gravemarker the date for William's death is
listed as 1740, that would have made him only 13 or 14 years of
age when he inherited some property and began having his
children. William Shell's grandson, William Baugh Shell placed
marker when William Shell's son Harmon died, the date could have
been engraved/remembered incorrectly. William Baugh Shell was a
noted person of his era (was a politicaian of some note in GA
and was a delegate when GA withdrew from the Union. Signed the
sessession papers---"
Also Married Spouse: Finch, Elizabeth and had a dau Mary.

"Tranquil Methodist Church at Turin, Georgia was organized by
early settlers from Newberry District, South Carolina. It was
one of the two first Methodist Churches in Coweta County. Among
the charter members were Harmon Shell, William Shell and wife,
Nancy, and Isom Shell and wife Mary. William Shell was the first
Superintendent of the Sunday Schools. It was once said (1928)
that there had never been a time in the Church's history that
the Shell Family was not represented on the official board
(Coweta Co. Chronicles, Mary C. Jones and Lily Reynolds,
Atlanta, 1928). William Shell, named above, was a son of Harmon;
Isom (Isham), a son of Harmon's brother, John. No doubt the
church at Turin was named for Tranquil Church of Newberry Dist.,
SC. Probably Harmon and the others worshipped at the South
Carolina Church before going to Georgia.
Harmon's family is shown in censuses for Newberry District for
1800, 1810, 1820 and 1830. He was one of the enumerators of the
census for 1820; in that year he reported 19 slaves in his
household. Dixie L. McCrary. The Ellis Line from Surry-Sussex in
Virginia. 1978, p. 36."
