The information I have copied here came from Hugh W. Delzell, "Delzell Ties", page 12.
The father (name unknown) of James Delzell. According to the 1850 Census of Crawford Co. IL, James, was born in Pennsylvania about 1800. The 1880 Census of Crawford Co., IL shows James' father was born in Ireland. James married Cynthia Rathbone in Newark, OH. Their family is the subject of appendix E-7. We believe that the Sarah Delzell who married Gideon Rathbone in Newark, OH was a sister of James. Their families are listed next to each other in the 1830 Census of Licking Co., OH, where James' name is spelled Dallgell. Also listed after James is a Robert Dalgell, who we think was also a brother. We believe this Robert is the subject of a history written by Mrs. N. W. Baird of Fairfield, IA. A sketch of this Robert's family is given in Appendix E-6 (See Robert (1800-1874,Richland Co., IL on the left side of this page).
