BIOGRAPHY: Thomas Spencer was a member of the Charlotte County comittee of Safety in 1775, served in the armed forces with the rank of Captain and then Colonel, and was a member of the House of Burgesses. ---- Thomas of Charlotte County left a will dated 13 July 1793, probated in 1793. It provided:

(a) As I have never given my daughter, Julia Spencer anything in her possession, I now give her the plantation on which I now live, together with all the land on the upper side of the Creek, and also 5 negroes (named), plus 12 head of cattle, her choice of my stock, my cart and oxen, my bay horse, 2 feather beds and furniture, 10 head of sheep and 12 head of hogs.

(b) To son Thomas Spencer all the land on the lower side of the Creek.

(c) To son Gideon Spencer, a negro boy (named), which I lent him.

(d) To son Samuel F. Spencer, a negro girl (named), which I lent him.

(e) All the rest of my estate to be equally divided among my eight children now named, to wit, John Spencer, Thomas Spencer, Gideon Spencer, Samuel F. Spencer, Mary Speed, Elizabeth J. Speed, Martha Owen Holloway, and Judith Spencer.

As executors Thomas appointed "my four sons, to wit, John Spencer, Thomas Spencer, Gideon Spencer and Samuel F. Spencer." Thomas signed in his own hand.

The witnesses were Archd. Alexander, Jacob Morton, Joseph Venable, and Quin Morton. ---Thomas' will did not mention his wife, Elizabeth Julia.
Reports seen by this writer say she died in 1793, apparently before Thomas wrote his will. -- from "Early Spencers of Virginia" by Henry W. Rigby."

Thomas of Charlotte County left a will dated 13 July 1793, probated 2 Dec 1793. Thomas' will did not mention his wife, Elizabeth Julia. Some say she died in 1793, apparently before Thomas wrote his will. His two children Sion and Ann also were not mentioned so must have died before 13 Jul 1793.
