"A different ancestry for Alan is given in "The Origin of the Stuarts and the FitzAlans," by George Washington, in "English Origins of New England Families - Second Series," III:429ff., refering to Dr. J. Horace Round's presentations on the subject. Dr. Round proposes that the line descends from Alan, Dapifer of Dol in Brittany ca. 1080, "son of Flaald," who had sons:" [S2460]
