Sonja Sophia Jaworsky

F, (11 May 1917 - 23 October 2012)
Birth*11 May 1917 Sonja was born on 11 May 1917.1
Marriage*6 May 1944 She married Orval Lee Pittman at Ponca City, Kay Co., Oklahoma, on 6 May 1944 at age 26.
Married Name6 May 1944  As of 6 May 1944, her married name was Pittman.
Death*23 October 2012 She died on 23 October 2012 at age 95.2
Obituary*say 24 October 2012 Sonja Sophia (Sophie) Pittman was born the daughter of Henry and Mary Jaworsky on May 11, 1917, in Clinton. Sophie's parents, brother and several sisters had immigrated to the United States from Russia in 1911 and had settled into farming in Custer County. This close knit family and the farm life nurtured Sophie into becoming an affectionate and loving little girl with an appreciation for the outdoors and the farm life.

As a little girl, she enjoyed playing on the farm with her sister, Vera, and brothers Carl and Gus. She was fond of going home for a day or two with her older brother, Nick, and his wife Rosie.

Sophie also appreciated the companionship and mentoring of her older sisters who were married and living in the general area: Lola, Nettie, Jennie, and Mary.

Sophie grew up and attended various schools in the Clinton area and moved to Ponca City where she attended the Ponca City School of Beauty Culture. She graduated and while she was working as a beautician in Ponca City, she met Orval Pittman. They were eventually married and began raising children. Lee, Bud, Lonny, and Larry grew up and were educated in the local schools.

Sophie was a caring and tender mother to her children and a devoted wife to Orval. They were active in the First Lutheran Church and personally involved with the boys' education and other school activities. Throughout these busy years, Sophie was loving and cheerful and patient as she involved herself in the day-by-day challenges of raising four sons. There were good times and there were hard times. Sophie was deeply committed to the good health and well-being of her husband and children and was concerned about the happiness of each one. She never asked for anything and was always ready to give of herself to help Orval and the boys in moments when they needed her.

During her happy times and her sad times, Sophie maintained a strong faith in Jesus Christ as her Savior. She taught her sons to pray by kneeling with them beside their beds when they were small children. She encouraged them with Bible passages in letters written years later when they were separated by thousands of miles.

Sophie never stopped showing love to her husband and children, other family members and friends. When grandchildren came, she nurtured them with her love and kindness and tenderness. On all days and at all times, Sophie, was concerned about the welfare of her loved ones. Her warm smile and gentle touch will be missed.

Sophie departed this life on Oct. 20, 2012. We love you, Mom. Goodbye.
