Mother: Sarah BRADFORD |
Among the early TN Taylors were Parmenas and LeRoy, both of whom
served in the Revolution. They were Captains in NC service early
in the war and after moving to the TN country there were
Colonels in the Militia service. They were very large and tall,
each of them being six feet, six inches in height according to
information given by their descendants. They were dark and had
clear cut features, prominent noses, high foreheads, strong
chins and piercing brown eyes. From: "Notable Southern Families:
Taylor of TN, by Zella Armstrong"
Parmenas service in the revolution is not proved DAR
notwithstanding. Parmenas was not a captain in the NC service.
Parmenas served under Col. William White, whose daughter, Betty,
he married about 1779. They went by horseback with all of their
possessions and set out across the mountains for the Watauga
Valley which they believed to be in VA. They traveled in a group
that included Taylors, Bradfords, Marrs, and Roses, all kin.
They found later that they were still in the western territory
of NC that became TN. From: "Some Descendants of Parmenas
Taylor, by Ruth Bradfield."
His service under White is questionable as is Col. White's rank.
These two sources are of questionable worth. Take the material
with due restraint.
