Charles was born at
Chester Co., South Carolina, on 4 August 1788. He was the son of
James Strong Jr. and
Letitia Strong. Rev. Charles Strong was graduation-college in 1808; Charles graduated from the first graduating class of South Carolina College, with a class of 31 students. He went to school with two of his cousins, James and Joseph Lowry. He was Charles was ordained on 8 November 1816, and installed as pastor of the Cannon's Creek, King's Creek and Prosperity congregations in Newberry District, where he labored for eight years. On 8 November 1816. He married
Nancy Agnes Harris on 13 February 1817. Charles died on 25 July 1824 at
Newberry Co., South Carolina, at age 35. He was buried in July 1824 at
Cannon's Creek Church Cemetery, Newberry Co., South Carolina; Inscription on Charles Strong's tombstone:
"Sacred
To the memory of the Rev. Charles Strong,
Son of James Strong Esq. of
Chester District, and
pastor for eight years of the Congregations
of King's Creek, Cannon's Creek
and Prosperity.
He lived beloved, and died lamented
by all who knew him. On the 20th
of July 1824, in the 36th year of his age,
his life of usefulness closed.
He was distinguished for his vigorous
intellect and amiable manners,
his unassuming and dignified de-
portment, his solid and extensive
learning, his firm attachment
to Evangelical truth, his fervent
and consistent piety.
Mark the perfect man and behold
the upright, for the end of that
man is peace."
