Leonard M. Plaisted MOULTONBOROUGH -- Leonard M. Plaisted, 97, of Winaukee Road, died May 24, 2005, at Lakes Region General Hospital, Laconia. He was born in Ashland on Sept. 20, 1907, the son of Arthur N. and Grace (Maloon) Plaisted. He grew up in Meredith, attending local schools. At age 16, Mr. Plaisted started working at Camp Winaukee on Moultonboro Neck. He became full-time maintenance superintendent at the camp in 1946 and retired after more than 70 years of service there. He moved to Moultonborough in 1947, and was a lifetime member of the Moultonborough Fire Department and Carroll County Fire Wardens Association. He was a 20-year Boy Scout leader of Troop 142 of Moultonborough. Mr. Plaisted served on the Moultonborough School Board for six years during the planning and construction of Interlakes High School. He also was a charter member of the Moultonborough Historical Society and the 50 Plus Club. As the oldest resident of Moultonborough, Mr. Plaisted was awarded the Boston Post Cane on Jan. 17. Mr. Plaisted worked in ice harvesting, lumbering, logging, as a plumber, a short order cook and in the maple syrup business. Additionally, he worked at the quarry in Meredith, was a part-time police officer, made skis at Land Ski Shop in Laconia and worked on the Weirs Scenic Road and Meredith Post Office. He built knitting machines at Scott and Williams and did forestry work in the Rumney and Warren areas. He had also worked on a dam on the Connecticut River and melted lead for linotype at the Meredith News. He was predeceased by his wife of 70 years, Dorothy (Colby) Plaisted, in 2003. The family includes four sons, Roderic Plaisted of Kissimmee, Fla., Richard Plaisted of Moultonborough, Stephen Plaisted of Dayton, Ohio, and George A. Plaisted of Manchester; one daughter, Judith Haracz of Albuquerque, N.M., and Moultonborough; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews. SERVICES: Memorial services are Monday at 11 a.m. at Moultonborough Methodist Church, Route 25, Moultonborough. The Rev. Edward Charest will officiate. Burial will be Monday at 2:30 p.m. in Middleneck Cemetery, Moultonboro Neck Road, Moultonborough. Memorial donations may be made to Moultonborough Fire Department Scholarship Fund, P.O. Over the years, Rod enjoyed playing golf, swimming, ice skating, skiing, and became a pilot of his own plane. Rod will be remembered for his pleasant smile, happy disposition and his kindness and generosity shown to others. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; 2 daughters, Sandra (Keith) Johnson and Annette (John Donald) Beets; 3 brothers; a sister; and 4 grandchildren.
