      Her married name was Norrington.⁴ Florence Dayton was born on 3 April 1882 at Fulham, London, England; and her birth was recorded in the June quarter 1882 at Fulham Registration district.^4,5,6,2 She was the daughter of John Dayton and Louisa Purney.^2,3 Florence Dayton appeared on the census of 5 April 1891 at 14 Dieppe Street, Fulham, London, England, as Daughter, age 9, birthplace Fulham, London, and she was a Scholar.² She was baptized on 6 April 1892 at St Andrew, West Kensington, London, England; with several of her siblings.⁷ She appeared on the census of 31 March 1901 at North London Hotel, 331 High Road, Willesden, Middlesex, England, as Servant, single, age 18, birthplace London, and she was a Barmaid.⁵ She married Arthur Norrington, son of Walter Norrington and Elizabeth Judd, on 14 May 1907 at All Saints, Fulham, London, England; and their marriage, after Banns were read, was recorded in the June quarter 1907 at Fulham Registration district. Arthur was age 24, a Bachelor of 387 New King's Road, Fulham, Cellarman and Son of Walter Norrington, Publican. Florence was age 25, a Spinster of 53 Branksea Street, Fulham, and Daughter of John Dayton, deceased. Their Witnesses were Walter Norrington and Laura Sophia Dayton.^4,8,9,10 Florence Dayton and Arthur Norrington emigrated in 1907 as a Florence Norrington (born 1880) and an Arthur Norrington (born 1878) were on passanger lists for a ship departing from Liverpool for Quebec, Canada.^11,12 Florence Dayton appeared on the census of 1911 at Halton, Ontario, Canada, as Wife, age 29, born April 1882.¹³ She and Arthur Norrington were Shopkeepers and Arthur was photographed with his wife and eldest son outside their store. Milton Historical Society Archival Collection provides the following description:

'Old Norrington Store, Main St., Milton, c.1911-12 (next and west of present Biway). Florence Norrington, Arthur Norrington, Victor Norrington (small boy) - young lady believed to be a Clement girl'. However 'Don Norrington writes further that the woman at the side of the picture was probably Eva Dayton (Florence Norrington's sister) who was living with them at the time of the 1911 census. Also living there was a man named Edward Champion...^14,15'


Florence Dayton and Arthur Norrington were recorded on a Canadian Passenger List arriving at Halifax, Nova Scotia, sailing on the Orduna from Liverpool, England arriving 10 November 1919.¹⁶ Florence Dayton appeared on the census of 1921 at George Street, Georgetown, Ontario, Canada, as Wife, age 38, birthplace England, immigration year 1907.¹⁷ She and Arthur Norrington were recorded on a list of Boarder Crossings from United States of America to Canada; he was a Cafe owner and she was a Housewife on 28 August 1933.¹⁸ Florence Dayton and Arthur Norrington were recorded on a list of Boarder Crossings from United States of America to Canada; he was a Cafe owner and she was a Housewife on 2 September 1933.¹⁸ Florence Dayton and Arthur Norrington a notice was published in the Canadian Champion (Milton, ON) celebrating their forthcoming 50th Wedding Anniversary on 9 May 1957.¹⁹ Florence Dayton and Arthur Norrington celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary with an announcement in the Canadian Champion (Milton) of 9 May 1957. This was followed by a description and picture in the same paper on 23 May 1957. On 29 May 1957 the Georgetown Herald also carried a similar item.²⁰ Florence Dayton lived in 1976 at Dundas, West Flamborough, Wentworth, Ontario, Canada.⁹ She died on 6 April 1978 at Canada at age 96.⁹ She was buried after 6 April 1978 at Grove Cemetery, Flamborough West, Wentworth, Ontario, Canada.^21,22

      Arthur Victor Norrington also went by the name of Victor Norrington.^2,3 He was born on 6 August 1909 at Milton, Halton, Ontario, Canada.^1,4,5,6,7 He was the son of Arthur Norrington and Florence Dayton.¹ Arthur Victor Norrington appeared on the census of 1911 at Halton, Ontario, Canada, as Son, age 1, born August 1909.⁸ He was photographed with his parents outside their store. Milton Historical Society Archival Collection provides the following description:

Further to the 'Norrington Family Newsletter Number 8, Spring issue 1978, more family anecdotes and information included the following:

     ' The eldest son [of Arthur Norrington (1882-1961)], Victor, enjoyed his early years as a family unit with his parents and siblings in their various moves from his birthplace, Milton, to Streetsville, Toronto and Georgetown, all of which are in Ontario. One influential aspect of his youth was the association along with his peers in the Tuxis Boys group in the United Church under the direction of the very dedicated leader, Mr S.F. Howard. It was logical that all the family would be completely involved in the operation of the father's business, a confectionery and ice cream parlor. Following his elementary and secondary education in Georgetown, Victor apprenticed in Pharmacy in that same town and later on in Toronto with the large retail drug chain G. Tamblyn Ltd. The stock market crash of 1929 and the ensuing depression necessitated a transfer into the wholesale drug field with the National Drug and Chemical Co. Ltd., serving as order clerk and outside salesman for some 24 years. Most of this time was spent covering the Northern Ontario region. This was a period of hard work, concern for one's job with minimal remuneration. In 1954 Victor joined the Rexall Drug Co. as sales representative until about 1967, when he returned to a desk as administrator in the private label manufacturing division of the company, the Carnegie Laboratories. He remained in this capacity until his retirement in 1974. His main hobbies were golfing, curling, as well as spectator sports and travel. The travel areas included Eire, Europe, the Holy Land, an extensive freighter voyage to the far East and of course Florida, Hawaii and Western Canada.⁵'

He died on 2 August 2007 at Sunset Manor, Collingwood, Nottawasaga, Simcoe, Ontario, Canada, at age 97.¹³ He was the subject of an obituary The following Obituary appeared in 'The Toronto Star' on 3rd August 2007:

'Norrington, Arthur, Victor - Just four days before his 98th Birthday, Victor passed away on August 2, 2007 at Sunset Manor in Collingwood. Husband of the late Margaret Green. Predeceased by daughter Audrey and son Hal. Survived by daughter Ruth (Bill), sons Don (Lorraine) and Rick (Sharon), and son-in-law Arthur.Grandfather of nine and great-grandfather of eight. He was also predeceased by his second wife Blanche Corriveau. Service at the MORLEY BEDFORD FUNERAL HOME, 159 Eglinton Avenue West on Saturday, August 4 at 01:00 P.M. Cremation and internment at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Victor's name may be made to the Sunset Manor Bus Fund, 49 Raglan St., Collingwood, On L9Y 4X1. The family wishes to thank all the staff at Sunset Manor for 9 years of excellent care - with special thanks to Peggy, Judy, Maxine and Jeff.' on 3 August 2007.¹³

      Her married name was Norrington.¹ Margaret Helen Green was born on 14 July 1906 at Toronto, York, Ontario, Canada; and her parents were Archibald Green and Beatrice M Frankish.^1,2,3 She was the Daughter of Archibald Green and Beatrice Mae Frankish.⁴ She married Arthur Victor Norrington, son of Arthur Norrington and Florence Dayton, on 26 August 1930 at Toronto, York, Ontario, Canada.^1,5,6 Margaret Helen Green died on 11 September 1980 at Toronto, York, Ontario, Canada, at age 74.^2,7 She was buried after 11 September 1980 at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Toronto, York, Ontario, Canada.^2,8

      Francis Edward Elliott was also known as Frank Elliott.² He was born on 13 August 1860 at Bradford on Avon, Wiltshire, England.^1,3,4 He appeared on the census of 7 April 1861 at Bridge Street, Bradford on Avon, Wiltshire, England, as Francis E Elliott, Son, age 7 months, birthplace Bradford, Wiltshire. His parents (Joseph M Elliott, a Basket Maker, and Mary Elliott) and a brother completed the household.⁴ He appeared on the census of 2 April 1871 at Bridge Street, Bradford on Avon, Wiltshire, England, as Francis E Elliott, Son, age 10, birthplace Bradford, Wiltshire. His parents (Joseph M Elliott, a Basket Maker, and Mary Elliott) and six siblings completed the household.⁵ Marriage banns for Francis Edward Elliott were published at St Paul, Canonbury, London, England; were due to be read on 3, 10 and 17 February 1895. He was Single of the Parish of Carragh, Ireland, and she was Single of the Parish.⁶ He married Minnie Harriet Philbrick, daughter of Albert Philbrook and Charlotte Knapp, in 1895 at Co Kildare, Ireland; and their marriage was recorded at Naas Registration district in the June quarter 1895.^1,7 Francis Edward Elliott appeared on the census of 31 March 1901 at Aldershot Military, Stanhope and Wellington Lines, Aldershot, Hampshire, England, as Head, married, age 42, birthplace Bradford, Wilts., and he was a Private in the Infantry, Provisional Battalion and Imperial Yeomanry. His wife, mother-in-law, and three children completed the household.¹ He appeared on the census of 19 June 1921 at Portsmouth, Hampshire, England, as born at Wiltshire, England, in 1859.⁸ He and Minnie Harriet Philbrick lived on 29 September 1939 at Portsmouth, Hampshire, England; where they were on the 1939 Register, when he was a retired Greengrocer.⁹ Francis Edward Elliott died on 25 March 1941 at 53 Bickerley Road, Ringwood, Hampshire, England, at age 80; and his death was recorded at Christchurch Registration district in the March quarter 1941.^10,11 His estate was probated on 20 May 1941; to his widow at Llandudno Registry.¹¹

      Her married name was Stonard.^1,2 Lucy King was born in 1864 at Fleet, Lincolnshire, England; and her birth was recorded at Holbeach registration office in the December quarter 1864.^1,3 She married William Stonard, son of James Stonard and Matilda Mose, in 1897 at Lincolnshire, England; and their marriage was recorded in the December quarter 1896 at Holbeach Registration district.^1,2 Lucy King appeared on the census of 31 March 1901 at Pirbright, Surrey, England, as Wife, age 36, birthplace, Fleet, Lincolnshire.¹ She appeared on the census of 2 April 1911 at Church Mead Cottage, Pirbright, Surrey, England, as wife, age 46, birthplace Fleet, Lincolnshire, England.⁴ She died on 27 June 1929 at Heath View, Long Cross, Chertsey, Surrey, England; and her death was recorded at Chertsey registration office in the June quarter 1929.^5,6

     Barbara Annie Stonard was born on 9 December 1897 at Pirbright, Surrey, England; and her birth was recorded at Guildford record office in the March quarter 1898.^1,2,3 She was the daughter of William Stonard and Lucy King.¹ Barbara Annie Stonard was baptized on 20 February 1898 at St Michael and All Angels, Pirbright, Surrey, England.⁴ She appeared on the census of 31 March 1901 at Pirbright, Surrey, England, as Daughter, age 3, birthplace Pirbright, Surrey.¹ She appeared on the census of 2 April 1911 at Church Mead Cottage, Pirbright, Surrey, England, as daughter, age 13, birthplace Pirbright, Surrey.⁵ She died in 1979 at Surrey, England; and her death was recorded at Surrey North Western Registration office in the March quarter 1979.³

      Her married name was Stonard.¹ Amelia Walker was born on 19 December 1874 at Enfield, Middlesex, England.^2,3 She married Alfred James Stonard, son of James Stonard and Matilda Mose, in 1900; and their marriage was recorded at Edmonton record office in the March quarter 1900.^1,4 Amelia Walker appeared on the census of 31 March 1901 at Pirbright, Surrey, England, as Wife, age 26, birthplace Enfield, Middlesex.¹ She died in 1964 at Essex, England; and her death was recorded at Maldon Registration district in the December quarter 1964.⁵

     William Dodd was born on 9 November 1874 at Chigwell Row, Essex, England; and he was the Son of George Dodd.^1,3,4,5 He appeared on the census of 5 April 1891 at Chigwell Row, Essex, England, as Son, age 16, birthplace Chigwell Row, Essex, and he worked as a Farrier (Smith).³ He appeared on the census of 31 March 1901 at High Street, Aveley, Essex, England, as Son, age 26, birthplace Chigwell Row, Essex, and he worked 'at home' as a Barman.³ He married Beatrice Laura Norrington, daughter of Walter Norrington and Elizabeth Judd, in 1904 at Essex, England; and their marriage was recorded in the June quarter 1904 at Dunmow Registration district.^1,2 William Dodd lived on 7 August 1904 at Stoneyfield Common, Essex, England; at the time his Son Cecil Dodd was Baptised.⁶ He appeared on the census of 2 April 1911 at 3 Hambro Hill Cottages, Rayleigh, Essex, England, as Head, age 36, married 1903, birthplace 'Rayne', Essex, and he worked as a Gardener - Domestic. His wife and four children completed the census.⁷ He appeared on the census of 19 June 1921 at Hornchurch, Essex, England, as born at Rayne, Essex, in 1879.⁸ He and Beatrice Laura Norrington lived on 29 September 1939 at Southend-on-Sea, Essex, England; where they were on the 1939 Register, when their occupation was 'Caterer' at an 'Eating House.⁵' William Dodd died on 7 July 1956 at Essex, England, at age 81; and his death was recorded at Romford Registration district in the September quarter 1956.^9,10 He was buried on 12 July 1956 at Romford Cemetery, Havering, Essex, England.¹¹

     William John Sheldon was born in 1889 at South Weald, Essex, England; and his birth was recorded at Billericay Registration district in the March quarter 1889.^1,3 He was baptized on 3 March 1889 at St Peter, South Weald, Essex, England.⁴ He was the son of Charles James Sheldon and Lydia Kemp, whose marriage was recorded at Billericay Registration, Essex, district in the December quarter 1887.^5,6 He appeared on the census of 5 April 1891 at South Weald, Essex, England, as Son, age 2, birthplace South Weald, Essex. His parents, a brother and his grandfather Charles J Sheldon completed the household.⁷ He appeared on the census of 31 March 1901 at 9 Coxtie Green, South Weald, Essex, England, as Son, age 12, birthplace South Weald, Essex. His parents and five siblings completed the household.⁸ He appeared on the census of 2 April 1911 at Coxtie Green, South Weald, Essex, England, as Son, age 22, birthplace South Weald, Essex. His parents and four siblings completed the household.⁹ He married Ada Norrington, daughter of Walter Norrington and Elizabeth Judd, on 5 August 1912 at St Paul, Bentley Common, Essex, England; and their marriage was recorded in the September quarter 1912 at Billericay Registration district. She was the Daughter of Walter Norrington and he was the Son of Charles James Sheldon.^1,10,6 William John Sheldon appeared on the census of 19 June 1921 at South Weald, Essex, England, as born at South Weald, Essex, England, in 1889.¹¹ He was executor for his Wife and the National Probate Calendar for 1947 records she was 'of 63 North Road Brentwood Essex (wife of William John Sheldon'. Administration was granted at London 'to the said William John Sheldon G.P.O. Caretaker' on 23 July 1947.² He died on 24 February 1952 at Essex, England; and his death was recorded at Brentwood Registration district in the March quarter 1952.^12,2 His estate was probated on 20 May 1952; and the National Probate Calendar for 1952 records he was 'of 9 Cherry-avenue Brentwood Essex'. Administration was granted at London 'to Walter Edward Sheldon film cutter.²'

     Walter John Norrington was born on 7 November 1915 at Streetsville, Ontario, Canada; and an announcement of his birth as a Son was published in the Canadian Champion (Milton) four days later.^3,1,2,4 He was the son of Arthur Norrington and Florence Dayton.¹ Walter John Norrington appeared on the census of 1921 at George Street, Georgetown, Ontario, Canada, as Son, age 5, birthplace Ontario, Canada.⁵ He and Marguerite Putman met as was reported in The Canadian Champion of 17 November 1978, 'while he was overseas during the second world war and [she] came to Canada as a war bride, 32 years ago.⁶' Walter John Norrington married Marguerite Putman on 25 October 1945 at Parish Church, Waarschoot, Flanders, Belgium; and wedding announcements appeared in the Georgetown Herald on 31 October 1945 for Lc. Corp. Walter J. Norrington and the Canadian Champion on 8th November 1945: 'Walter John (Bus) Norrington, son of Mr and Mrs Arthur Norrington of Dundas, Ont., and nephew of Mr and Mrs W.T. Barnard, was married to Miss Margaret Putman...^3,2,7,8,9,10' Walter John Norrington was a soldier in the Second World War and at the end of the war the Hamilton Spectator included Cpl W.J. Norrington, Dundas, in a list titled 'Hamilton Soldiers Aboard Acquitania' as one of the 'army personnel from Hamilton and district who are due to arrive at Halifax on February 2' on Train 404 on 1 February 1946.¹¹ He was one of the founder members of the Rotary Club of Milton and was reported as their first Vice President in an article titled 'Milton Rotary Club Received Charter Last Week' published in The Canadian Champion on 30 January 1947.^12,13 He was Rotary Club of Milton President in 1948 at Milton, Ontario, Canada.^14,15 He and Marguerite Putman lived between 1965 and 1968 at Halton, Ontario, Canada; where they appeared on the Canadian Voters Lists and his occupation was listed as Farmer.¹⁶ Walter John Norrington is mentioned in the 'Norrington Family Newsletter Number 7, Autumn Issue 1977' and 'Norrington Family Newsletter Number 8, Spring issue 1978', which had more family anecdotes and information including the following:

     'The second son [of Arthur Norrington (1882-1961)], Walter, born in Streetsville also attended elementary school in Georgetown. Along with his younger brother he journeyed to Texas U.S.A. with the parents and resided in Weslaco and Edinburg, where they both continued their schooling. From the father's portrait account it is known the venture into fruit farming was a disaster. The family returned to Canada in 1933, choosing Dundas, Ontario in which to attempt another start in life. At this point in his life, Walter was more or less taken under the wing of his maternal aunt and uncle, the W.T. Barnards. Uncle Will had become the owner of a prosperous confectionary and ice cream parlor in Milton, the self same store that Walter's father had built, operated and sold around 1916. At the outbreak of World War II, Walter enlisted in the Argylle and Sutherland Highlanders Regiment, seeing service in Jamaica, Nanaimo B.C. and in the final allied drive across France, Belgium and Holland into Germany. Returning to civilian life Walter returned to Belgium to take a wife, Marguerite [#1813]. Back in Canada they eventually took over the uncle's business in Milton. Later on, forsaking the retail role of store keeper he took up farming on the nearby Niagra Escarpment [Ontario], specializing in dairy farming and still later had considerable success with grain. Both Walter and Marguerite have won numerous ribbons and awards including World Championships .... If any one hobby could be paramount it would be Walter's love of holidays in Hawaii. It was also possible when farm duties became less arduous to find time to fabricate fine lawn chairs and tables. At the same time he made a sizeable contribution of the local Historical Society.²'

He and Marguerite Putman were recorded in The Canadian Champion and the headline read 'World Rye Queen Two Years in a Row'. Under the accompanying photograph was the caption: 'Marguerite and Walter Norrington are shown with samples of their rye crop, which won the world championship at the Royal Winter Fair last week, for the second year in a row. Her entry was first, his second in the world contest' on 15 November 1978.⁶ Walter John Norrington died on 6 March 1983 at Canada at age 67.^17,18

     Eric Edward Norrington was born on 3 November 1917 at Georgetown, Esquesing, Halton, Ontario, Canada; and an announcement of his birth as a Son was published in the Georgetown Herald in the Canadian Champion (Milton) five days afterwards.^1,2,3 He was the son of Arthur Norrington and Florence Dayton.¹ Eric Edward Norrington appeared on the census of 1921 at George Street, Georgetown, Ontario, Canada, as Son, age 3, birthplace Ontario, Canada.⁴ He married Florence Elva Lowndes circa 1936 at Canada.¹ Eric Edward Norrington was included in a list of graduates during the Second World War in the Globe and Mail under the title 'Ontario Fliers Receive Wings' at Hagersville as 'E. Norrington, Dundas' on 30 December 1942.⁵ He was noted in the Hamilton Spectator as ' E.E. Norrington, youngest son of Mr and Mrs Arthur Norrington, of Dundas, has been awarded a commission with the R.C.A.F. in Canada. Pilot Officer Norrington has been in service four years. He served first as ground crew, remustered for training as a pilot and was awarded his wings at Hagersville, year ago last December' on 5 April 1944.⁶ He was subsequently recorded further to the 'Norrington Family Newsletter Number 7, Autumn Issue 1977' and 'Norrington Family Newsletter Number 8, Spring issue 1978', with more family anecdotes and information which included the following:

'Third son in this generation, Edward, preferred his second name and later in life acquired also the nickname of "Tex". As a lad in Georgetown, his birthplace, Edward is remembered by his siblings as a "regular" at the Saturday Matinée in the local theatre. However he was introduced along with his brothers into the gentle art of dispensing five cent ice cream cones and twenty-five cent Banana Splits. Attending elementary school until the family moved to Texas in 1930, he also continued on to secondary school in that state. The three year stint in the valley of the Rio Grande River must have left an imprint, picking up the "Tex" monicker during his World War II service. He still enjoys periodical visits to Texas on vacation. Back now to his return to Canada in 1933 as referred to elsewhere, the family settled in Dundas, Ont. Ed. was employed for some years at the Bertram Steel Plant, fabricators and exporters of heavy machinery. Ed. married a Dundas girl, Florence [#1815]....

'As with so many of his age group Edward enlisted in the R.C.A.F. in 1940 and served as a Flying Officer pilot in bomber command. The particular area of operation was in command of a Lancaster Bomber in the assault on Nazi Germany. After the collapse of Germany his squadron flew the Atlantic Ocean en route to the Japanese theatre. With the surrender of Japan, the airmen including Ed. returned to civilian life. Ed. continued in the steel plant in Dundas and then for brief periods work in Guelph and Owen Sound, Ont.. The family at this time were involved also in the operation of a gift shop at Sauble Beach on Lake Huron. Ed's hobby has been varied, enjoying golfing, curling and over the years he has excelled in wood working, producing many fine examples of artistic talent.²'

He died on 29 April 1985 at Ontario, Canada, at age 67.¹ He was buried at White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Wentworth, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada; and indexed as Edward Norrington.⁷

     James Mears was born circa 1833 at South Ockendon, Essex, England.^1,2 He married Louisa Spiller in 1860; and their marriage was registered in the June quarter 1860 at Graves End Registration district.¹ James Mears and Louisa Spiller had the followingl children: Mary Ann Mears b. 1860, Louisa Mears b. c 1864, Thomas Mears b. 1866, Emily Mears b. 1868, Ellen Mears b. 1870, James Mears b. 1872, Elizabeth Mears b. 1874, Harry Mears b. c 1878.^3,4,5,6 James Mears appeared on the census of 7 April 1861 at South Ockendon, Essex, England, as Head, married, age 27, birthplace South Ockendon, Essex, and he was an 'Ag. Lab.³' He appeared on the census of 2 April 1871 at Romford Road, South Ockendon, Essex, England, as Head, married, age 39, birthplace South Ockendon, Essex, and he was a Labourer.⁵ He appeared on the census of 3 April 1881 at Romford Road, South Ockendon, Essex, England, as Head, married, age 48, birthplace South Ockendon, Essex, and he was a Farm Labourer.⁷ He appeared on the census of 5 April 1891 at West Street Cottage, South Ockendon, Essex, England, as Head, married, age 60, birthplace South Ockendon, Essex, and he was an Agricultural Labourer. He was living with his wife Louisa, and sons, Harry, Thomas and James, and Ernest Fisher, grandson, age 6, Scholar, birthplace Grays, Essex.⁴
