     Doris Sybil Rands was born on 5 October 1911 at Essex, England; and her birth was recorded in the December quarter 1911 at West Ham Registration district.4 She was the daughter of Walter Thomas Rands and Annie Elizabeth Norrington.3 Doris Sybil Rands was baptized on 12 May 1912 at Hockham, Norfolk, England.5 She appeared on the census of 19 June 1921 at Hockham, Norfolk, England, as born at Manor Park, Essex, in 1911.6 As of 1934, her married name was Emerson.7,8 She married Robert Henry Emerson on 23 July 1934 at St Leonard, Mundford, Norfolk, England; and their marriage, after Banns were read, was recorded at Thetford Registration district in the September quarter 1934. She was age 22, a Spinster, of Northwold, Daughter of Walter Thomas Rands, Shopkeeper. He was age 27, Bachelor, Traveller, of Mundford, Son of Robert Emerson, Electrician. Thier Witnesses were Edward Norman Worrall and Beryl Florence Thorpe.7,8 Doris Sybil Rands and Robert Henry Emerson lived on 29 September 1939 at 62 Norwich Street, East Dereham, Norfolk, England; where they were on the 1939 Register and he was an Egg Agent.9 Doris Sybil Rands was bereaved on the death of her husband Robert Henry Emerson on 3 January 1947.10 She was executrix for her Husband and the National Probate Calendar for 1947 records he was of '62 Norwich-street East Dereham Norfolk'. Administration was granted at Norwich to 'Doris Sybil Emerson widow' on 27 February 1947.11 She was executrix for her Mother and the National Probate Calendar for 1947 records her Mother was of '62 Norwich-street East Dereham Norfolk widow'. 'Administration (with Will)' was granted at Norwich to 'Doris Sybil Emerson widow'. 'Former Grant D.R. Norwich 20 August 1946' on 4 July 1947.11 As of 4 May 1949, her married name was Holman.7,12,13 She married Desmond Vernon Holman on 4 May 1949 at Norfolk, England; and their marriage was recorded at Fakenham Registration district in the June quarter 1949.7,12,13 Doris Sybil Rands died on 3 August 1988 at Norfolk, England, at age 76; and her death as Doris Sybil Holman was recorded at Kings Lynn Registration district in August 1988.14,15 She was buried at Brandon Road Cemetery, Swaffham, Norfolk, England; with her Husband and a transcription of their Monumental Inscription reads:

     John Nokes was born on 1 March 1824 at South Benfleet, Essex, England.3,4 He was the son of John Nokes and Mary Such.2 John Nokes was baptized on 12 March 1824 at St Mary The Virgin, South Benfleet, Essex, England.1,5,2,3 He appeared on the census of 6 June 1841 at Pigeon House, East Tilbury, Essex, England, as age 15, birthplace Essex.6 He appeared on the census of 30 March 1851 at North Street, Romford, Essex, England, as Servant to a Surgeon and General Practitioner, unmarried, age 26, birthplace South Benfleet, and he was a Groom.4 He married Mary Ann Mead, daughter of William Mead, on 6 June 1853 at Hornchurch, Essex, England; and their marriage, as Single, was registered in the June quarter 1853 at Romford Registration district. She was the Daughter of William Mead and he was the Son of John Nokes.5,7,8,9,10 John Nokes appeared on the census of 7 April 1861 at High Street, Hornchurch, Essex, England, as Head, married, age 37, birthplace 'South Bamflet, Essex', and he was a Brewer's Cellerman. Next door, at the King's Head Inn, lived the Publican, James Olley, who was probably his employer. He was living with his Wife Mary and Sons William and John.11,12 He was a 'Brewer's Storehouseman' on 24 April 1861.7 He appeared on the census of 2 April 1871 at Village, Stanford-le-Hope, Essex, England, as Head, married, age 47, birthplace South Benfleet, Essex, and he was a 'Coal Wharfinger'. He was living with his wife Mary, daughter Ada and son Edward.13 He appeared on the census of 5 April 1881 at Southend Road, Stanford-le-Hope, Essex, England, as Head, married, age 56, birthplace South Benfleet, Essex and he was a 'Coal Agent'. He was a Carter on 21 March 1883.1 He appeared on the census of 5 April 1891 at Thornly Cottage, Stanford-le-Hope, Essex, England, as John Noakes, Head, married, age 67, birthplace Benfleet, Essex, and he was employed as a 'Laborer in Brewery'. He was living with his Wife Mary Ann. Also in the household was a Lodger, 24 year old, single, Miller, Eli Newbury, who was born in Chardstock, Dorset.16

He was a Brewer at the time of his son Edward's marriage on 14 August 1892.17 He appeared on the census of 31 March 1901 at Victoria Road, Stanford-le-Hope, Essex, England, as Head, married, age 77, born South Benfleet, Essex, and he worked as a 'General Labourer'; John and his Wife Mary Ann were the only Nokes in the Household. Also in the Household there were two Visitors: Mr RM Inman, married, age 51, 'Surg Physician', birthplace Carlisle, Cumberland, and Emma Inman, married, age 33, birthplace Canonbury, London.18

He died on 21 November 1904 at Essex, England, at age 80; and his death was registered in the December quarter 1904 at Orsett Registration district, at age 80.19,20 His estate was probated on 23 March 1905; and the 1905 National Probate Calendar records he was 'of Victoria-road Stanford-le-Hope' and Administration (with Will) was granted at London to 'Mary Ann Nokes widow.20'

He appeared on the census of 2 April 1871 at 7 Castle Street East, Marylebone, London, England, as Head, married, age 54, birthplace Lambeth, Surrey, and he was a Master Tailor. Also in the household were his Daughters Elizabeth and Emma, Son Henry and future daughter-in-law Selina Anthony.6

in 1884.10 He appeared on the census of 5 April 1891 at 7 Castle Street East, Marylebone, London, England, as Head, widowed, age 74, birthplace City, London, and he was a Tailor. Other family members were his son Henry, and grandchildren Nellie and William.11

He died in 1896 at London, England; and his death at age 79 was registered in the September quarter 1896 at Islington Registration district.12

The George Cookson was numbered 50193, of London, 58 tons, and she was a Sailing Barge, employed in the Costal Trade. The Chief Officer or Master was Thos. White. No other people were aboard the vessel that night.7
