      Edith May Philbrook was also known as Edith May Philbrock.³ Her married name was Hunt.⁴ She was born on 9 March 1895 at Birkenhead, Cheshire, England; and her birth was recorded at Birkenhead Registration district in the June quarter 1895.^1,5,6 She was the daughter of Henry Philbrook and Sarah Jane Webster.² Edith May Philbrook was baptized on 21 April 1895 at St Peter, Birkenhead, Cheshire, England.^7,3 She appeared on the census of 31 March 1901 at 171 St Anne Street, Birkenhead, Cheshire, England, as Edith M Philbrock, Daughter, age 7, birthplace Birkenhead, Cheshire.² She appeared on the census of 2 April 1911 at 39 Paterson Street, Birkenhead, Cheshire, England, (transcribed Philbrock) as Daughter, age 16, birthplace Birkenhead, and she was a Soap Wrapper in a Soap Manufacturers.⁸ She married John Joseph Hunt in 1926 at St Matthew, Birkenhead, Cheshire, England; and their marrriage was recorded at Birkenhead Registration district in the September quarter 1926 and indexed as Edith M Philbrock and John J Hunt.^4,9 Edith May Philbrook and John Joseph Hunt lived on 29 September 1939 at Paterson Street, Birkenhead, Cheshire, England; where they were on the 1939 Register and he was a General Labourer.⁶ Edith May Philbrook died on 28 May 1964 at Cheshire, England, at age 69; and her death was recorded at Birkenhead Registration district in the June quarter 1964.^10,11 Her estate was probated on 17 September 1964; and she was of 39 Paterson Street, Birkenhead, Cheshire; Administration was granted to 'James Hunt wood machinist' at Liverpool Registry.¹⁰

      Rachel Esther Sophie Beaucaire was also known as Esther Beaucaire.² Her married name was Raynal.² She was born on 19 May 1845 at Brussels, Brabant, Belgium.^1,3 She was the daughter of Stanislas Moses Beaucaire and Sarah Alex.² Rachel Esther Sophie Beaucaire married Solomon Joseph E Raynal on 24 November 1864 at Paris, Île-de-France, France.^2,4 Rachel Esther Sophie Beaucaire died on 30 June 1880 at Paris, Île-de-France, France, at age 35.⁵ She was buried on 2 July 1880 at Paris, Île-de-France, France.⁶

     Solomon Joseph E Raynal was born on 28 November 1837 at Paris, Île-de-France, France.^2,3 He was the first child and son of Isaac Napoleon Raynal (1793-1864) and Esther Sophie Emmeline Rodrigues (1803-1894).^4,3 He was a Notary.⁴ He married Rachel Esther Sophie Beaucaire, daughter of Stanislas Moses Beaucaire and Sarah Alex, on 24 November 1864 at Paris, Île-de-France, France.^1,5 Solomon Joseph E Raynal died on 31 December 1872 at Amélie les Bains, Gironde, France, at age 35.⁶

      George Alex Beaucaire was also known as Georges Daniel Salomon Beaucaire.⁴ He was born on 2 October 1859 at Paris, Île-de-France, France.^4,5 He was the son of Stanislas Moses Beaucaire and Sarah Alex.³ George Alex Beaucaire married Gabrielle Blocq on 5 September 1893 at Meurthe et Moselle, Lorraine, France.⁶ George Alex Beaucaire died on 28 August 1949 at Paris, Île-de-France, France, at age 89.⁴

     Stanislas Moses Beaucaire was born on 10 September 1815 at Nîmes, Languedoc-Roussillon, France; and he was the son of Daniel Beaucaire (1792-1849) and Esther Milhaud (1790-1847).^3,4 He married Sarah Alex, daughter of Solomon Alex and Rachael Jones, on 26 June 1844 at Brussels, Brabant, Belgium.^1,3 Stanislas Moses Beaucaire was Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur, Administrateur de la Caisse d'Epargne et du Bureau de Bienfaisance du Second Arrondissement de Paris.⁵ He died on 10 May 1886 at Neuilly-sur-Seine, Hauts-de-Seine, Île-de-France, France, at age 70; and his address at death was 6 bd du Chateau.³

      Benjamin Lewin Mosely also went by the name of Ben Mosely.¹ He was born circa 1836 at Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, England.³ He was the son of Lewin Mosely and Lydia Alex.¹ Benjamin Lewin Mosely appeared on the census of 7 April 1861 at 30 Berners Street, Marylebone, London, England, as Son, unmarried, age 24, birthplace Cheltenham, Gloucestershire.⁴ He married Florence Cohen on 26 August 1863 at Peachfield House, Edgbaston, Birmingham, Warwickshire, England; and the following announcement was published on 5 September 1863 in the Bucks Herald: 'Benjamin L Mosely Marriage 26.8.1863 at Peachfield House, Edgbaston, by Rev. L. Chapman, assisted by Rev. A. L. Green, of Sheffield, to Florence, second daughter of the late Jacob Cohen'. Their marriage was recorded at Birmingham Registration district in the September quarter of 1963 and recorded/transcribed as Benjamin Lewin Moreley/Morely and Florence Cohen.^5,6,7,8

He was to indenture a Dental apprentice as follows:

The article refers to the indenture in the following section :

'The documents which have survived in the archives of the British Dental Association, although too few to allow for conclusions to be drawn about how representative they are of dental apprenticeship in general, cover a wide range of transactions and locations....

Premiums paid varied greatly ....... one of the two [indentures] which show a family connection ......... that of 'Lewin Lewis Rose Mosely of No 21 Cornwallis Gardens - Hastings in the County of Sussex ... to Benjamin Lewin Mosely of Number 236 Robertson Street Hastings in the said County of Sussex - Dentist' in 1892, required no financial premium....¹⁸'

He was listed in 'Kelly's Directory' as 'dentist' at 36 Robertson Street, Hastings, Sussex, England.²⁰ He was part of Bankruptcy notices which appeared in 'London Gazette' for Benjamin Lewin Mosely address 'Now or late of 314, Regent-street and 3, Lancaster-terrace, Primrose Hill, both in the county of London, whose present residence the Petitioning Creditor is unable to ascertain', from 14 December 1900 to 21 May 1901. The 'Edinburgh Gazette' of 11 December 1900 listed him with Bankrupts from the 'London Gazette', Receiving Orders. On 21 May 1901 'Discharge suspended for two years. Bankrupt to be discharged as from 26th April, 1903' on the grounds that 'Bankrupt's assets are not of a value equal to 10s. in the pound on the amount of his unsecured liabilities; and that he had omitted to keep such books of account as are usual and proper in the business carried on by him, and as sufficiently disclose his business transactions and financial position within the three years immediately preceding his bankruptcy.^21,22'

He appeared on the census of 31 March 1901 at Tavistock, 21 Cornwallis Gardens, Hastings, Sussex, England, as Head, age 64 years, married, born Cheltenham, Gloucestershire. He was a Dental Surgeon, 'Own account', and was living with his wife Florence.²³

He was listed in an Application for Debtors' Discharge in The London Gazette. His was 'Now or late of 314 Regent-street and 3 Lancaster-terrace, Primrose Hill, both in the county of London, whose present residence the Petioning Creditor is unable to ascertain'. He was described as a Surgeon Dentist and the hearing was fixed for April 26 1901, at the High Court of Justice in Bankruptcy, number 1276 of 1900, at 11.00 a.m. at Bankruptcy Buildings, Carey Street, London, W.C. on 5 April 1901.^24,25 He was listed in Orders Made On Application for Discharge in the London Gazette when his 'Discharge was suspended for two years. Bankrupt to be discharged as from 26th April 1903' on 21 May 1901.^26,27 He and Lewin Lewis Rose Mosely LDS lived between 1906 and 1909 at 4 Grange Road, Gunnersbury, London, England; where they were recorded on the London Electoral Register.^28,29 Benjamin Lewin Mosely appeared on the census of 2 April 1911 at 4 Grange Road, Gunnersbury, Chiswick, Middlesex, England, as Head, age 74, married 47 years, birthplace Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, and he had Private Means. His Wife, a Visitor and a Domestic Servant completed the household.³⁰ He died before 5 January 1912 at 4 Grange Road, Gunnersbury, Chiswick, Middlesex, England; and his death was recorded at Brentford Registration district in the March quarter 1912.^31,32 He was the subject of an obituary in the Jewish Chronicle on 5 January 1912.³²

      Frederic Solomon Mosely F.Z.S. also went by the name of Fred Mosely.⁴ He was born circa 1840 at London, England.^5,3 He was the son of Lewin Mosely and Lydia Alex.³ Frederic Solomon Mosely F.Z.S. appeared on the census of 6 June 1841 at Berners Street, Marylebone, London, England, as age 8 months and he was born in Middlesex.⁶ He appeared on the census of 30 March 1851 at 30 Berners Street, Marylebone, London, England, as Frederick Sloman Mosely, Son, age 10, birthplace London, Middlesex.⁷ He appeared on the census of 7 April 1861 at 30 Berners Street, Marylebone, London, England, as Lemen Mosely, Son, unmarried, age 22, birthplace Middlesex, and he was a Dentist.⁸

He appeared on the census of 2 April 1871 at 30 Berners Street, Marylebone, London, England, as Francis S Mosely, Son, age 31, birthplace Marylebone, Middlesex, and he was, like his father, a Surgeon Dentist.¹¹ He married Eliza Mary Binney circa 1880.¹² Frederic Solomon Mosely F.Z.S. appeared on the census of 3 April 1881 at 24 Park Village East, St Pancras, London, England, as Head, married, age 41, birthplace Marylebone, London, and he was a Dentist. He was recorded with the address of 448 Strand, London, England, in a illustrated newspaper article as being the owner of 'Two Young Marmozets, The First Ever Bred in Europe' in The Graphic of 27 October 1883 which published an engraving which had been 'Engraved Life Size' of the two animals, which survived twenty-four and seventy-two hours. 'Mr Fred S Mosely, F.Z.S.' had announced their birth in The Times, seventeen days earlier. His 'villa' was visited by three gentleman who appear to have upheld his claim. He explains where they were purchased and how his servant 'who attends to all my pets' came to him with the unexpected news. He says his lack of experience and knowledge caused their deaths and made an appeal for information from The Graphic's readers. Also his letter appeared a few days earlier with the address of 24 Park-Village East, Regent's Park, as 'Marmozets Bred in London' on 20 October 1883 in The Illustrated London News.^13,2

He was executor to Elizabeth Mosely, Spinster, age 75, who died on 7 October 1889 at 8 Manville Place, Marylebone, Middlesex, as 'Nephew' and Surgeon Dentist of 448 Strand, Middlesex 'one of the Next of Kin' on 13 November 1889.^14,15 He appeared on the census of 5 April 1891 at 24 Park Village East, St Pancras, London, England, as Head, widowed, age 50, birthplace London, and he was an Employer and Surgeon Dentist. A Cook and a General Servant completed the household.¹⁶

He lived before 26 August 1891 at Flaxley Lodge, Avenue Road, Regent's Park, London, England.^17,18 He married Ida Sara Sytner, daughter of Hill Sytner and Julia Rothchild, on 26 August 1891 at 40 York Road, Edgbaston, Birmingham, Warwickshire, England; and their marriage was recorded in the September quarter 1891 at Birmingham Registration district. Their wedding was announced in The Times two days later and in the Daily News of London three days later.^1,4,17,18 Frederic Solomon Mosely F.Z.S. was probably the 'Mosely Frederic Solomon' listed in The Post Office London Directory, 1899 at 'Avenue rd, Regent's Pk, NW'; however no occupation was included.¹⁹

He appeared on the census of 31 March 1901 at 55 Compayne Gardens, Hampstead, London, England, as Head, married, age 60, birthplace London, and he was a Surgeon Dentist, working on his Own Account. He was living with his Wife Ida, Son Reginald and Daughter Kathleen. There were three Domestic Servants: Parlourmaid, Cook and Nurse.⁵

He was executor to his Sister and the 1902 National Probate Calendar reads: 'Mosely Amelia Elizabeth of 39 Boundary-road St. John's Wood Middlesex spinster died 17 April 1902 Probate London 5 May to Frederic Solomon Mosely surgeon-dentist and Harry Philip Phillips bedstead-manufacturer.²⁰

He died on 23 April 1906 at London, England; and his death was registered in the June quarter 1906 at Hampstead Registration district, at age 65. He was described as 'of 55, Compayne gardens, West Hampstead, London, N.W., and 448, West Strand, London, W.C.^21,22'

He was the subject of an obituary published in The Times:

     'MOSELY.—On the 23rd inst., at his residence, 55, Compayne-gardens, West Hampstead, of pneumonia, FREDERICK S. MOSELY. Funeral Wednesday, 1.30 p.m., leaves above address for Willesden.²³'

His estate was probated on 14 June 1906; and the following notice appeared in The London Gazette Issue 27925 published on the 26 June 1906:

'It is titled: "Counter Petition of Licensed Victuallers against Miss Mosely of No. 8 Mandeville Place." She was operating a boarding house at that address and had applied for a Wine and Beer Licence. The petitioners argued that "no necessity exists for the grant of a Wine and Beer License to the Applicant for your Petitioners Houses are in the immediate vicinity of the Applicants House whilst there are many Grocers and others in the same neighbourhood who supply Wine and Beer to those requiring them." They go on to complain about increased competition, high rents, and taxes...Accompanying this petition is a single sheet which is a "Confirmation of Licences 1888" ' which apparently granted the licence

between 1887 and 1888.^9,10 She appeared on the census of 1891 at 8 Mandeville Place, Marylebone, London, England, as Amelia Moseley, Manageress, unmarried, age 57, birthplace Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, and she was a 'Hotel Keeper (Pub).¹¹' She appeared on the census of 31 March 1901 at 15 Langham Street, Marylebone, London, England, as Amelia Moseley, Sister, of whom it is unclear, single, age 74 (sic), birthplace Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, and she was Living on her own Means.¹² She died on 17 April 1902 at London, England; and her death was recorded in the June quarter 1902 at Hampstead Registration district, age 68.^13,14 Her estate was probated; and the 1902 National Probate Calendar reads: 'Mosely Amelia Elizabeth of 39 Boundary-road St. John's Wood Middlesex spinster died 17 April 1902 Probate London 5 May to Frederic Solomon Mosely surgeon-dentist and Harry Philip Phillips bedstead-manufacturer.¹⁴'

      Her married name was Phillips.² Rachel Mosely was born circa 1835 at Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, England.^2,3 She was the daughter of Lewin Mosely and Lydia Alex.¹ Rachel Mosely appeared on the census of 6 June 1841 at Berners Street, Marylebone, London, England, as age 6½ and she was not born in the county.⁴ She appeared on the census of 30 March 1851 at 30 Berners Street, Marylebone, London, England, as Daughter, age 16, birthplace Cheltenham, Gloucestershire.⁵ She appeared on the census of 7 April 1861 at 30 Berners Street, Marylebone, London, England, as Daughter, age 26, birthplace Cheltenham, Gloucestershire.⁶ She married Albert Phillips in 1869 at London, England; and their marriage was recorded at London City Registration district in the June quarter 1869.^1,7 Rachel Mosely appeared on the census of 2 April 1871 at 10 Charlotte Road, Edgbaston, Birmingham, Warwickshire, England, as Wife, age 35, birthplace Cheltenham, Gloucestershire.⁸ She appeared on the census of 3 April 1881 at 10 Charlotte Road, Edgbaston, Birmingham, Warwickshire, England, as Wife, age 38, birthplace Cheltenham, Gloucester.³ She appeared on the census of 31 March 1901 at 10 Charlotte Road, Edgbaston, Birmingham, Warwickshire, England, as Wife, age 66, born Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, and she was 'Living On [Her] Own Means'.⁹

She appeared on the census of 2 April 1911 at 10 Charlotte Road, Edgbaston, Birmingham, Warwickshire, England, as Wife, age 76, birthplace Cheltenham, Gloucestershire. A companian, butler, cook and housemaid completed the household. Also included was the extra information that she had been married 42 years with six children born alive, five of whom were still living.¹⁰ She was executrix to her sister and The 1921 National Probate Calendar records: 'Parry Maria Reece of Hotel Great Central Marylebone Middlesex widow died 26 May 1921 Administration 19 August to Rachel Phillips widow.¹¹'

She died on 6 March 1926 at Warwickshire, England; and her death was recorded at Birmingham South Registration district in the June quarter 1926.¹² She was buried at Old Witton Cemetery, Birmingham, Warwickshire, England; and a picture of the gravestone is on another website.¹³

     Maria Mosely was born in 1847 at London, England; and her birth was recorded at Marylebone Registration district in the September quarter 1847.^1,2,3 She was the daughter of Lewin Mosely and Lydia Alex.¹ Maria Mosely appeared on the census of 30 March 1851 at 30 Berners Street, Marylebone, London, England, as Daughter, age 3, birthplace London, Middlesex.⁴ She appeared on the census of 7 April 1861 at 30 Berners Street, Marylebone, London, England, as Daughter, age 13, birthplace Middlesex.² She appeared on the census of 2 April 1871 at 30 Berners Street, Marylebone, London, England, as Daughter, age 23, birthplace Marylebone, Middlesex.⁵

As of 1876, her married name was Vandam.^6,7 She married Albert Dresden Vandam in 1876 at London, England; and their marriage was recorded at Pancras Registration district in the June quarter 1876 and indexed as Maria Mosely and Albert Dresden Vandam.^7,8

As of 1903, her married name was Parry.¹¹ She married Reece Edmund Parry in 1903 at London, England; and their marriage was recorded at Marylebone Registration district in the December quarter 1903.¹¹ Maria Mosely was executrix to her first husband and the National Probate Calendar for 1903 records: 'Vandam Albert Dresden of 47a Manchester-street Middlesex... (by the Rev. Adler, chief rabbi.) John Phillips, Esq., son of P. Phillips, Esq., of this town, Leah, fourth daughter Lewin Mosely.       Florence Cohen was also known as Florrie Cohen.³ Her married name was Mosely.⁴ She was born circa 1835 at Birmingham, Warwickshire, England.^5,4,6 She was the Daughter of Jacob Moses Cohen (b. c 1802, d. 30 Sep 1862) and Esther (?) Florence Cohen appeared on the census of 2 April 1871 at 312 Regent Street, Marylebone, London, England, as Wife, age 35, birthplace Birmingham, Warwickshire.¹⁶ She appeared on the census of 5 April 1891 at 21 Cornwallis Gardens, Hastings, Sussex, England, as Wife, age 55, birthplace Birmingham, Warwickshire, and she was 'at Home.¹⁷' She appeared on the census of 31 March 1901 at Tavistock, 21 Cornwallis Gardens, Hastings, Sussex, England, as Wife, age 65, born Birmingham, Warwickshire.^18,19 She appeared on the census of 2 April 1911 at 4 Grange Road, Gunnersbury, Chiswick, Middlesex, England, as Wife, age 75, birthplace Birmingham, with nine children born alive and seven still living.²⁰ She died on 22 October 1919 at Gloucester House, 334 Kew Road, Kew, Surrey, England; and her death was recorded at Richmond Registration district in the December quarter 1919.^21,22 Her estate was probated on 29 November 1919; and Probate was granted to her daughter Esther Florence Mosely, spinster.²²

      Her married name was Hart.¹ Ada Lydia Mosely was born in 1865 at London, England; and her birth was recorded at Marylebone Registration districe in the September quarter 1865.^3,4,2 She was the daughter of Benjamin Lewin Mosely and Florence Cohen.¹ Ada Lydia Mosely appeared on the census of 2 April 1871 at 312 Regent Street, Marylebone, London, England, as Daughter, age 5, birthplace London, and she was a Scholar.³ She married David Hart in 1887 at Sussex, England; and their marriage was recorded at Hastings Registration district in the June quarter 1887.^1,5

     David Hart was born circa 1860.¹ He married Ada Lydia Mosely, daughter of Benjamin Lewin Mosely and Florence Cohen, in 1887 at Sussex, England; and their marriage was recorded at Hastings Registration district in the June quarter 1887.^3,2

      Edward Lewin Mosely LDS was also known as Edwin Lewin Mosely.⁴ He was born in 1868 at Marylebone, London, England; and his birth was recorded at Marylebone Registration district in the June quarter 1868.^5,1,6 He was the son of Benjamin Lewin Mosely and Florence Cohen.² Edward Lewin Mosely LDS appeared on the census of 2 April 1871 at 312 Regent Street, Marylebone, London, England, as Son, age 3 months, birthplace London.⁷ He appeared on the census of 5 April 1891 at 21 Cornwallis Gardens, Hastings, Sussex, England, as Edward S Mosely, Son, single, age 22, birthplace Marylebone, London, and he was 'Empolyed' as a Medical Student.⁸ He was listed in 'The Post Office London Directory, 1895. [Part 2: Street Directory]' with 'Mosely Benj. L, surgeon dentist' as follows:

He contributed a letter and pictures of 'Mr Mosely's Schipperke Dogs' for the The Penny Illustrated Paper and Illustrated Times. This was probably in connection with two later articles, one a full report in The New York Times: A Dog with False Teeth; A London Dentist Took Endless Trouble and Made a Good Job (4 August 1898) and one quoted on Birds and All Nature: Animals as Patients that 'there was exhibited at a certain show a very interesting and aged schipperke, who was at that time the only dog in the world boasting a complete set of false teeth. His owner, Mr. Moseley (sic), is a dentist as well as a lover of animals, and it is entirely due to his skill that the little dog is able to eat with perfect comfort by the aid of the artificial molars provided for him by his master..' on 26 December 1896 at 314 Regent Street, London, England.^10,11,12,13 He was listed in The Medical Directory as ' Mosely, Edward, L.D.S. R.C.S. Eng. 1892; (Dent. Hosp. Lond); Hon. Dent. Surg. Nazareth House Orph. Hammersmith. Contrib. "The Preperation of Cavities for Filling" Dent. He married Kathleen Emma Searston in 1901 at London, England; and their marriage was recorded in the June quarter 1901 at Marylebone Registration district.^5,15 Edward Lewin Mosely LDS appeared on the census of 31 March 1901 at West Ham, Essex, England, as Head, married, age 32, born London, Middlesex, and he was a Dental Surgeon.⁵ He was recorded as follows: '2025 Mosely, Edward Lewin. P.O. Box 1774, Johannesburg ; Transvaal. 274:8,2313. October 1903t' in a document titled 'Ars Quatuor Coronatorum : Being the Transactions of the Lodge Quatuor Coronati, No. 2076, London'.¹⁶

He lived on 4 February 1903 at Transvaal, South Africa; where his occupation was Dental Surgeon.¹⁷ He was recorded on an Incoming UK Passenger List from Port Said arriving at Tilbury on the SS Oxfordshire, as a 70 year old Dental Surgeon, proposing to stay at the Cumberland Hotel, London, last resident in South Africa, travelling with his wife and daughter on 26 March 1937.¹⁸ He was executor to his Wife and the following newspaper notice was published:

'Under the Colonial Probates Act 1892 Rules. In the High Court of Justice Probate Divorce and Admiralty Division Probate Kathleen Emma Mosely deceased. Notice is hereby given that after the expiration of Eight days, Application will be made in the Principal Probate Registry of the High Court of Justice for the Sealing of the Letters of Administration to the Estate of Kathleen Emma Mosely described as Kathleen Mosely late of "The Tuffet," Ravine Road, Bantry Bay, Cape Town, South Africa, granted by the Supreme Court of South Africa, Cape of Good Hope Provincial Division on the tenth day of July One thousand nine hundred and forty five.

The 1946 National Probate Calendar records: 'Mosely Kathleen Emma otherwise Kathleen of The Tuffet Ravine-road Bantry Bay Cape Town South Africa (wife of Edwin Lewin Mosely) died 24 May 1945 Administration (with Will) Cape Town to the said Edwin Lewin Mosely...in England. Sealed London 11 June.' on 10 July 1945.^19,20 He died after August 1945 at South Africa.²¹ He was commemorated as a keen philatelist and his stamps make up The Mosely Philatelic Collection in the British Library. The catalogue reads: 'Formed by Dr Edward Mosely, the collection is of British Africa postage stamps to 1935. Mainly unused, particular strength is material from the Cape of Good Hope, Mauritius and Rhodesia. The Mosely Collection was donated in memory of her parents Dr & Mrs Edward Mosely of Johannesburg, by Mrs Florence Hester Kathleen Cunningham in 1945...'/'1946.²²'

      Her married name was Cooper.¹ Annie Elizabeth Roach was born in 1901 at Surrey, England; and her birth was recorded at Kingston registration office in the March quarter 1901.^1,2 She married Albert Edward Cooper, son of Charles Henry Cooper and Sarah Mercy Daborn, on 30 July 1921 at St Matthew, with Tolworth, St George, Surbiton, Surrey, England; and their marriage was recorded at Kingston registration office in the September quarter 1921.^1,3

      Bertram Jacob Mosely was also known as Jacob Bertram Mosely.^3,4 Bertram Jacob Mosely was also known as Bertie Mosely.⁵ He was born on 25 December 1866 at London, England; and his birth was recorded in the March quarter 1867 at Pancras Registration district.^1,5,2,6 He was the son of Benjamin Lewin Mosely and Florence Cohen.² Bertram Jacob Mosely appeared on the census of 2 April 1871 at 312 Regent Street, Marylebone, London, England, as Bertie Mosely, Son, age 4, birthplace London.⁵ He married Francia Lucy Annois on 14 January 1890 at Trinity Congregational Church, Perth, Western Australia, Australia; and their marriage was announced in The Western Australian (Perth WA) four days later including the information that it was by special licence by the Rev. E.T. Dunstan. Both J. Bertram Mosely and Francia's father were of Fremantle.⁷ Bertram Jacob Mosely appeared in an article in The Western Australian (Perth WA) on 12 Feb 1890 titled 'The Troubles of a Fremantle Dentist. Amusing Case in the Police Court' which reported:

'Yesterday morning, at Fremantle Police Court, before Mr R Fairbairn, R.M., Bertram Mosely, surgeon dentist of Fremantle, but at present practising in Albany, was summoned for having unlawfully detained 13 sets of mouth plates, the property of Louie Augustine Beaurteaux, surgeon dentist of Perth.

'Mr Gawler appeared for the complainant and the defendant was not present, but Mr Lovegrove, who was witness to the case elected to appear for him.' The summons had been 'left at the defendant's last place of residence in William-street, Fremantle, where it was received by the servant'. At the end of the fully reported hearing 'Mr Fairbairn said that they had it in evidence that the defendant went to the complainant's place and asked for the loan of some plates. The complainant stated that he showed him three out of which he was to select two, and while he was in the adjoining room the defendant went away taking the plates and they had not been returned. It was not a sale, it was a loan. It was stated that they had been melted in York, but whether that were true or not had nothing to do with the case. He would make an order for the return of the 13 plates, and failing that he would order the payment of 2s. 6d. each. He thought that was a fair price. That was his decision in the matter and, of course it carried costs.⁸'

He appears to be working as a Dental Surgeon in Australia prior to which he was in Philadelphia, United States of America before 28 August 1891.⁹ He was advertising in the [:ITAL:]Northern Territory Times and Gazette (Darwin NT)[:ITAL:] as follows:

'J Bertram Mosely, D.D.S., Surgeon Dentist.

'tc-919 Philadelphia, U.S.A.' [Some doubt has been put on the validity of his claim of being in the USA] on 28 August 1891.^9,10 He moved to Singapore and declared bancruptcy in The Straits Times, Weekly Issue of 1 March 1892, then attempted suicide as reported in The Straits Times of 8 June 1892 by 'accidentally' shooting himself in the chest at The Hotel de la Paix where he met his wife after returning from Kuala Lumpor; both him and his wife making a statement supporting his assertions. A fuller account appeared in the Straits Times of 15 June 1892.^11,12,13,14

He died on 6 January 1910 at Haiphong, Tonkin, Saigon/Vietnam, at age 43; and his death was announced in The Western Australian (Perth WA) a week later at age 45 formally of Fremantle and Geraldton.^15,10

      Esther Harriett Florence Mosely was also known as Ettie Mosely.³ She was born on 10 May 1877 at Hampton, Middlesex, England; and her birth was recorded at Kingston Upon Thames Registration district in the June quarter 1877.^2,4,5,6 She was the daughter of Benjamin Lewin Mosely and Florence Cohen.³ Esther Harriett Florence Mosely appeared on the census of 5 April 1891 at Gloucester House, 334 Kew Road, Kew, Surrey, England, as Esther Florence Moseley, Pupil at School, age 13, birthplace Hampton Wick.⁵ She appeared on the census of 31 March 1901 at Gloucester House, 334 Kew Road, Kew, Surrey, England, as Esther Mosely, Visitor at School, single, age 23, birthplace Hampton, Middlesex, and she worked on her own account as a Professor of Music.⁷ She appeared on the census of 2 April 1911 at Gloucester House, 334 Kew Road, Kew, Surrey, England, as Esther Mosely, Employee at School, single, age 30, birthplace Hampton, Middlesex, and she was a Teacher of Music.⁸ She was executrix for her Mother who died on 29 November 1919 at Gloucester House, 334 Kew Road, Kew, Surrey, England.⁹ She lived on 29 September 1939 at Surrey, England; where she was on the 1939 Register in the Caterham and Warlingham area, when she was a Retired Music Teacher, living at Kew Moorings.⁶ She died on 22 December 1970 at New Moorings, Parrock Lane, Hartfield, Sussex, England, at age 93; and her death was recorded at Uckfield Registration district in the December quarter 1970.^4,10,11

     Lewin Lewis Rose Mosely LDS was born on 21 April 1875 at London, England; and his birth was registered in the June quarter 1875 at Marylebone Registration district.^5,6,1,7 He was the son of Benjamin Lewin Mosely and Florence Cohen.⁴ Lewin Lewis Rose Mosely LDS was apprenticed to his father in 1892.

A copy of his indenture has survived and is quoted in 'The British Dental Journal' Volume 193, No. 5, September 14 2002 (Fig. 6).

Premiums paid varied greatly ....... one of the two [indentures] which show a family connection ......... that of 'Lewin Lewis Rose Mosely of No 21 Cornwallis Gardens - Hastings in the County of Sussex ... to Benjamin Lewin Mosely of Number 236 Robertson Street Hastings in the said County of Sussex - Dentist' in 1892, required no financial premium.....³'

He appeared on the census of 31 March 1901 at 14 Mornington Crescent, St Pancras, London, England, as Head, single, age 25, born London, England, and he was a Dental Student.⁸ He and Benjamin Lewin Mosely lived between 1906 and 1909 at 4 Grange Road, Gunnersbury, London, England; where they were recorded on the London Electoral Register.^9,10 Lewin Lewis Rose Mosely LDS married Lillian Lottie Giles in 1907 at London, England; and their marriage was recorded at Marylebone Registration district in the December quarter 1907.¹¹ Lewin Lewis Rose Mosely LDS was listed in 'Post Office London Directory, 1910. He was listed in The Medical Directory as ' L.D.S. R.C.S. Eng. 1903; (Nat. Dent. Hosp. Lond. and Middlx.) Hon. Dent. Surg. Indust. Sch. Jewish Girls' in 1910 at 314 Regent Streeet, London, England.¹³ He appeared on the census of 2 April 1911 at Bermage, 354 Kew Road, Richmond Upon Thames, Surrey, England, as Lewin Mosely, Head, age 35, birthplace Marylebone, London and he worked on his own account at home as a Dental Surgeon. His wife and a servant completed the household.^14,15 He lived between 1913 and 1918 at 354 Kew Road, Kew, Surrey, England; or worked from this address.^16,17 He was listed in London Post Office London Directory, 1915 as:

He lived on 29 September 1939 at The Lantern House, Burke's Road, Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire, England; where he was on the 1939 Register as a Dental Surgeon with a note 'ARP Report Beaconsf[ield]'. A housekeeper completed the household.²⁵ He married Agnes Florence Adams in 1943 at Middlesex, England; and their marriage, indexed as Agnes F Liddell and Lewin L R Mosely, was recorded at Hendon Registration district in the September quarter 1943.²⁶ Lewin Lewis Rose Mosely LDS died on 18 December 1955 at Sussex, England, at age 80; and his death was recorded in the December quarter 1955 at Chichester Registration district, at age 80.^27,28 His estate was probated on 14 April 1956; and the National Probate Calendar for 1956 records he was 'Lewin Lewis Mosely of The Old Farm Westergate near Chichester' and Probate was granted at London to 'Agnes Florence Mosely widow Albert Read solicitor and Howard Godfrey company director.²⁸'

     Reginald Frederic Mosely was born in 1892 at London, England; and his birth was recorded in the September quarter 1892 at Hampstead Registration district.^1,2 He was the son of Frederic Solomon Mosely F.Z.S. and Ida Sara Sytner.¹ Reginald Frederic Mosely appeared on the census of 31 March 1901 at 55 Compayne Gardens, Hampstead, London, England, as Son, age 8, birthplace London.¹ He died in 1903 at Sussex, England; and his death was recorded at Westhampnet Registration district in the September quarter 1903.³

     Jane Butler was baptized on 11 May 1840 at St Peter Collegiate Church, Wolverhampton, Staffordshire, England; and her birth was recorded at Wolverhampton and Seisdon Registration district in the June quarter 1840.^2,3 She was the daughter of Thomas Butler and Jane Bigford.¹ Jane Butler appeared on the census of 30 March 1851 at Gravely Hill, Wolverhampton, Staffordshire, England, as Daughter, age 10, birthplace Wolverhampton, Staffordshire, and she was a Scholar.¹

     Her married name was Ager.² Florence Gertrude Blagden was born on 8 January 1890 at London, England; and her birth was recorded at Islington Registration district in the March quarter 1890.^1,3 She was the Daughter of George Blagden who was a Groom at the time of his Daughter's marriage.^4,5 She appeared on the census of 2 April 1911 at Islington, London, England, as Daughter, age 21, birthplace Islington.⁶ She married Frederick Herbert Ager, son of Samuel Ager and Clara Rosina Harvey, on 5 August 1915 at St Matthew, Essex Road, Islington, London, England; and their marriage was recorded at Islington Registration district in the September quarter 1915. This took place after Banns had been called. He was a 24 year old Provision Merchant, of 18 Queensbury Street. She was a 25 year old spinster of 22 Sherborne Street. Their witnesses were George Blagden, Daisy Blagden and Samuel Ager.^2,4

Florence Gertrude Blagden and Frederick Herbert Ager lived on 29 September 1939 at Roding Lane, Ilford, Essex, England; where they appeared on the 1939 Register when he was a Commercial Traveller, Wholesale Food Distribution.⁷ Florence Gertrude Blagden was executrix to her Husband and The 1963 National Probate Calendar records that Frederick Herbert Ager of '48 Roding-lane South Redbridge Ilford Essex died 7th February 1963 Probate London 25 April to Florence Gertrude Ager widow.⁸' She died on 9 December 1975 at Devon, England, at age 85; and her death was recorded at Newton Abbot Registration district in the December quarter 1975.^3,9 Her estate was probated on 21 January 1976; and she was of '13 Serbyn Close Leigh Rd Leyton London E10.⁹'

     Joseph Farrell Bakeley was born in 1912; and his father was Hassell Bakeley.² He married Florence Ager, daughter of Frederick Herbert Ager and Florence Gertrude Blagden, on 19 February 1949 at The Registry Office, Lambeth, London, England; and their marriage was recorded at Lambeth Registration district in the March quarter 1949; the Witnesses were T M Berger and V D Healey.¹ Joseph Farrell Bakeley and Florence Ager lived in 1950 at 69 Mansfield Road, St Pancras, London, England; where they were on the Electoral Register.³ Joseph Farrell Bakeley and Florence Ager lived between 1952 and 1953 at 74 Acre Lane, Lambeth, London, England; as listed in the Electoral Register.³ Joseph Farrell Bakeley and Florence Ager lived between 1955 and 1956 at Flat 4, 410 Brixton Road, Lambeth, London, England; as recorded in the Electoral Register.³ Joseph Farrell Bakeley died on 19 May 1957 at England; and his death was recorded at Lambeth Registration district in the June quarter 1957.^4,5 His estate was probated; and The 1957 National Probate Calendar records that Joseph Farrell Bakeley of 'Flat 4 410 Brixton-road London S.W.9 died 19th May 1957 at Kings College Hospital London S.E.5 Administration London 24 September to Florence Bakeley widow.⁵'

     Hector Melville Macfarlane was born on 21 April 1896 at Prahran, Victoria, Australia.¹ He was the son of Hector Melville Macfarlane and Eliza Ann Searle.¹ Hector Melville Macfarlane died on 23 April 1896 at Prahran, Victoria, Australia.¹

      Her married name was Stevens.¹ Mary Faggeter was christened on 25 January 1787 at Pirbright, Surrey, England.^1,2 She married John Stevens, son of John Stevens and Ann Warner, on 10 November 1806 at Pirbright, Surrey, England.^1,3

     Aaron Rapley was born circa 1755. He married Ann Holloway circa 1780.¹

     Mary Beagley was born on 7 December 1877 at Campbellford, Ontario, Canada.¹ She was the daughter of Soloman Beagley and Mary Ann Hampton.¹

     Henry Richard Head was born in 1874 at Harrow, Middlesex, England; and his birth was recorded at Hendon record office in the March quarter 1874.^1,2 He was the son of William Head and Jane Iredale.¹ Henry Richard Head appeared on the census of 3 April 1881 at Harrow, Middlesex, England, as son, age 7, birthplace Harrow, Middlesex.¹ He appeared on the census of 5 April 1891 at Harrow, Middlesex, England, as son, age 17, birthplace Harrow, Middlesex.³ He married Alice Emma Ansley on 4 June 1892 at St Andrew, Kingsbury, Middlesex, England; and their marriage was recorded at Hendon record office in the June quarter 1892.^4,5 Henry Richard Head appeared on the census of 31 March 1901 at Leyton, Essex, England, as Head, married, age 27, birthplace Harrow on Hill, Middlesex.⁶ He appeared on the census of 2 April 1911 at 328 Markhouse Road, Walthamstow, Essex, England, as head, age 37, married, birthplace Greenhill, Harrow, Middlesex.⁷

     Egerton Dansie Coleman Philbrick was born on 13 February 1740 at Great Coggeshall, Essex, England; or 13 February 1740/41.^1,2 He was the son of John Philbrick and Amy Spurgin.¹ Egerton Dansie Coleman Philbrick was baptized on 4 March 1740 at St Peter Ad Vincula, Great Coggeshall, Essex, England; or 4 March 1740/41.^3,1,2 He married Lucy Loker on 26 October 1765 at St Mary The Virgin, Bocking, Essex, England; and they were married by licence. The register records: Egerton Philbrick (signed) of the parish of Sudbury in Suffolk and Lucy Loker (mark), in the presence of H. Hall and Richard Cook. The marital status of the pair was single.^1,4 Egerton Dansie Coleman Philbrick died before 16 October 1782 at Hatfield Peverel, Essex, England.⁵ He was buried on 16 October 1782 at Hatfield Peverel, Essex, England.^6,5

     John Philbrick was born on 2 May 1712 at Great Coggeshall, Essex, England.¹ He was the son of John Philbrick and Martha Hooper.² John Philbrick was baptized on 2 May 1714 at St Peter Ad Vincula, Great Coggeshall, Essex, England; as Son of Martha.^3,4 He married Amy Spurgin on 14 September 1732 at St Peter Ad Vincula, Great Coggeshall, Essex, England; and they were married by Licence.⁵ John Philbrick was a Peruke maker (wigmaker).⁶ He married Elizabeth Bridgman on 20 February 1762 at St Peter Ad Vincula, Great Coggeshall, Essex, England; and they were married by Licence; she was a Spinster and he was Widowed. Essex Archives contain: the 'Marriage licence bond and allegation of John Philbrick and Elizabeth Bridgeman.^7,8,9,10' John Philbrick died in December 1778 at Great Coggeshall, Essex, England, at age 66.¹¹ He was buried on 29 December 1778 at Great Coggeshall, Essex, England.^11,12

     Marshall Robert Macfarlane was born on 14 November 1861 at Amherst, Victoria, Australia.¹ He was the son of John Lorie Cambel Macfarlane and Susan Attfield.¹ Marshall Robert Macfarlane married Elizabeth Banks on 21 March 1887 at Frenchmans Creek, Woods Point, Victoria, Australia.¹ Marshall Robert Macfarlane died on 25 June 1931 at Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, at age 69.¹

     Mary Ann Butler was born in 1847 at Wolverhampton, Staffordshire, England; and her birth was recorded at Wolverhampton Registration district in the December quarter 1847.^1,2 She was the daughter of Thomas Butler and Jane Bigford.¹ Mary Ann Butler was baptized on 12 January 1848 at St Peter Collegiate Church, Wolverhampton, Staffordshire, England.³ She appeared on the census of 30 March 1851 at Gravely Hill, Wolverhampton, Staffordshire, England, as Daughter, age 3, birthplace Wolverhampton, Staffordshire.¹

     Frederick Thomas Martin was born in 1865 at Westminster, London, England; and his birth was recorded at Westminster registration office in the June quarter 1865.^3,4 He married Helen Moir, daughter of John Moir and Caroline Woodhatch, in 1890; and their marriage was recorded at Chertsey record office in the September quarter 1890.¹ Frederick Thomas Martin appeared on the census of 31 March 1901 at Westminster, London, England, as Head, married, age 36, birthplace Westminster, London.³ He appeared on the census of 2 April 1911 at 28 St Saviour's Road, East Leicester, Leicestershire, England, as head, maried, age 46, birthplace Westminster, London.² He died in 1914 at Leicestershire, England; and his death was recorded at Leicester registration office in the September quarter 1914.⁵

     Ernest William Shepherd was born circa 1880. He married Lilian Jane Greening, daughter of Joseph John Greening and Olive Florence Ottaway, in 1909; and their marriage was recorded at Headington record office in the March quarter 1909.¹

     Donald Christy Shepherd was born in 1914; and his birth was recorded at Headington record office in the March quarter 1914.¹ He was the son of Ernest William Shepherd and Lilian Jane Greening.¹

      Her married name was Kale.¹ Ivy L Hall was born on 23 April 1912.² She married Frederick Charles Kale, son of Alfred Kale and Emma Jane Willis, in 1934 at Suffolk, England; and their marriage was recorded at Ipswich Registration office in the September quarter 1934.¹

      Her married name was Poole.² Violet May Spong was born on 21 September 1922 at Surrey, England; and her birth was recorded at Chertsey record office in the December quarter 1922.^1,3 She was the daughter of Thomas Spong and Alice Mary Daborn.¹ Violet May Spong married William Wendon Whittington Poole in 1951 at Surrey, England; and their marriage was recorded at Surrey South Eastern registration office in the March quarter 1951.² Violet May Spong died in July 2002 at Oxfordshire, England, at age 79; and her death was e=recorded at Oxford registration office in July 2002.⁴
