Lucia Sweet1

F, b. circa 1810
  • In 1810, a William Sweet is living in Seneca, Ontario Co., New York (index search, not found on linked image); and there is a Richard Sweet in Williamson, Ontario Co., New York, with a household of 1 male under 10, 2 males 26-44, and 2 females 16-25.3
  • In 1830 Lucia may possibly be the daughter of William Sweet who in 1830 is living in Gorham, Ontario co., New York with a family that includes 2 females age 15-20.4
  • Lucia Sweet appeared on the census in 1860 at Gorham, Ontario Co., New York, Unfortunately the 1860 census in Gorham, as recorded, does not spell out complete given names, only initials were recorded. This household appears to be that of Lucia, who would have been a widow in 1860, as it is headed by a single woman, L. Babbitt, age 50, occupation: tailoring. Also enumerated is son L. Babbitt (Lansford), age 17, a farm laborer, and daughter A. Babbitt (Lucia Anna, who was also known as simply Anna), age 13. The youngest child, Ruth, who would have been 11 or 12, may have been sent elsewhere to live.5
  • She was living in 1870 at Gorham, Ontario Co., New York; age 60, with her son "Sanford" Babbitt, and his wife Maggie. Next door is another son, Enos L. and his young family.6
  • In 1880, Lucia is living in the home of her son Lansford O. Babbit and his wife (no children recorded) in Gorham, New York. Lucia's age is given as 70, born in New York. Her father's birthplace is given as Connecticut, her mother's as Vermont.7
