- It has been stated that at the time of his parents deaths in 1625, from the plague, Robert was apprenticed to a cordwainer in Norwich. He served his apprenticeship at Norwich from 1623 to 1630, and was made a freeman at Norwich in 1630. In 1635 he was warden of the Guild of Cordwainers and Sealer of Leather for the city of Norwich. His brother, Nicholas, was apprenticed to him.11

- Robert Williams came to Massachusetts in 1637, aged 28, a cordwainer of Norwich. With him were his wife, Elizabeth, age given as 27; four children, Samuel, John, Elizabeth, and Debra; and two servants, Mary Williams, age 18, and Anne Williams, age 15. They settled at Roxbury, Massachusetts.14
- His will was dated on 26 November 1685 probated 29 Sep 1693, mentions three sons, Samuel, Isaac, and Stephen; grandson Isaac; brother Nicholas Williams; grandchild Deborah Totman; grandchild Elizabeth Robinson.15,16
