Ann Woodward1

F, b. circa 1738, d. 2 November 1790
  • Ann Woodward was born circa 1738 (based upon marriage and birth dates of youngest and eldest children).
  • She married Abijah Babbitt, son of Edward Babbitt and Mehitable, at Berkley, Bristol Co., Massachusetts, on 3 November 1761.2
  • Ann Woodward died on 2 November 1790.1
  • Ann Woodward's parents have not been identified. She married her husband in Berkley, Massachusetts, and the adjoining towns of Taunton, Berkley and Dighton were homes to many early Woodward families, all descended from Nathaniel Woodward "the Mathematician" who ran the survey lines that determined the borders between Plymouth Colony and Massachusetts Bay Colony, as well as those between Massachusetts Bay and the Connecticut Colony. It is consievable she was a Woodward by marriage (meaning she was a widow when she married Abijah Babbitt) although the marriage record does not specifically call her a widow (they often do). Assuming she is a Woodward by birth, it is still to be determined which one of the many Woodward families of the area she belongs to.

M, b. between 1610 and 1620, d. 29 March 1677
  • Benjamin Wright was possibly born between 1610 and 1620 at England.
  • He married Jane before 1643.3,4
  • Benjamin Wright died on 29 March 1677 at Killingworth, Connecticut.1,5
  • Immigrant ancestor to America in 1639 From Bolton, or perhaps Swale, in north England. He came to America with a contingent of planters and settled at Guilford, Connecticut. His name first appears in the records there on 9 May 1645.1
  • Benjamin Wright came to Guilford as early as 1645, when he was granted leave to set up a "tan mill." He desired to purchase Mr. John Caffinch's homelot, which was later sold to Thomas Standish of Wethersfield. The magistrate, William Leete, told Wright that he was "no fit planter for such an accommodation," but he went ahead and bought it from Standish, and for contempt of court, and other "grave mis-errings" of like nature, he was whipped at New Haven in 1648. He seems to have been of a quarrelsome temperment, and to have had unpleasant relations with many of the town's people. Removing to Killingworth when that town was settled, he died there.4
