Letters

These are letters I've received since 2007. Between the end of the first batch of letters and these, there have unfortunately been some computer crashes. Data were lost that I wish I could have included.

As it is, we'll just have to be satisfied with these. If yours isn't here please send it again. Also, I've tried to answer everything I've received. Computer crashes have taken their toll there, also. Once more, I invite you to write again.

Dear David,

I'm doing something now that I should have done years ago: cleaning up my Hahn/Hawn database and straightening out the Nannie Ada Hevrin line.

Can you please tell me what you have for that, including which Aaron Hawn she married and who his parents were? I have two and I'm trying to put Elizabeth Caroline Whitener with the right one.

Hello Dale,

It's been a long time since we've corresponded but I'm just now getting around to correcting the many mistakes I made in publishing the Hahn/Hawn pages. You wrote to me about Samuel Hahn and family and thus Nannie Ada Hevrin. I have run across correspondence that proves to me that I have the lineage all wrong:

I have Samuel married to Barbara Dellinger and their children were Rufus, Labon, David, Marcus, Aaron, Susanna, Jefferson/Jackson/Jason and Amanada. Aaron Madison m. Nannie Ada Hefrin (Hevrin).

But now I find that Alfred also had a son Aaron and he's the one who married Nannie Ada Hevrin. I'm wondering, are their children Otto, Rochester, Mettie, Alma, Ethel, Theresa and Ella?

Your letter from about 1998, I think, said your ancestors were Samuel and family. Do you still have the lineage of that family? I am going to send a similar letter to Paul Kipp, who also wrote about Nannie Ada. Between the two of you, I can maybe get it all straight.

I'd appreciate your input in this so I can get these families straight.

Hello Linda,

I'm a descendant of Johannes Hahn's son Joshua. Joshua's daughter Mary Magdalena married William Bollinger and their great-great granddaughter was my grandma Lucille Frances Bollinger.

The Bollingers also came to PA in the Palatine ships of the 1700's as did some of my other branches so I've looked at those lists quite a bit.

In your research did you find clear documentation that Elisabetha Margaretha and "some children" came with Johannes when he came in 1751 on the Janet as stated in his oath? The Palatine Project researchers at progenealogists..com have the family coming on the Ketty in 1752 and list only Benedict, 2. I thought the manifests only listed men over 16 which makes me wonder where this information came from. I read on your website that you viewed statements about them coming on the Ketty as inaccurate. In the case of my Bollingers it seems that the single man, Heinrich, came, signed his oath, and went back to get the family a couple of years later.

I haven't seen those Strassberger and Hinke ship books where you can compare signatures or "marks" nor have I read Lorena Shell Eaker's book yet. You're the expert so I'd love to hear your opinion as to whether Johannes might have come and the gone back and the Ketty record is the family.

Also, do you have any information on Missouri Hahns who might have gone to California with Joshua

Bollinger when he took a huge group of his relatives around 1850?

With admiration from your 4th cousin 3 times removed!
