Temporary transfers to the 155th Pennsylvania Infantry

On 2 January 1864, when the veterans went on their veteran furlough, the 68 men who were not eligible for furlough were transferred to the 155th Pennsylvania. (Edward Wood (A) was transferred but returned to the regiment on the next day.) They returned when the regiment returned to the front, on 9 or 10 March 1864 (see the 11 March 1864 consolidated morning report).

The transferred men included both men who were not willing to reenlist, and also men who were willing to reenlist but were not yet eligible to (because they had too long to serve). I've noted in the table below Sinex's report of their willingness to reenlist in his letter of 30 December 1863. In that letter, he lists 69 people: 30 with more than fifteen months to serve who were willing to reenlist, 1 who was not, and 38 who had less than fifteen months to serve who were not willing to reenlist.

Sinex's letter and the consolidated morning report each include one person not in the other list: John Maginnis (C) is in Sinex's letter as not willing to reenlist, but not in the consolidated morning report, and Elisha Butt (I) is in the report but not in Sinex's letter.

[Unfortunately, the 11 March 1864 consolidated morning report claims six men from company D and five men from company H returned, while the report from 2 January 1864 lists five from company D and six from company H. I don't know how to resolve this inconsistency. They are otherwise consistent.]

Of those 68 men, 30 were discharged when their term expired, 6 were discharged because of disability, 7 died, 2 transferred to the Navy, 5 were discharged by special order, 16 were discharged by general order, and 2 were absent when regiment mustered out.
