Levi Colvin1

M, b. circa 1801, d. 1 July 1882
  • Levi Colvin was born circa 1801 at Vermont.2
  • He married first between 1820 and 1825 Mary.3
  • Levi Colvin married second on 13 January 1870 Eunice M. Beeman, daughter of Reuben Beeman and Orpha Crane, (according to various sources, including the Family Bible) but possibly later as Eunice is found on the 1870 census, recorded on 1 July 1870, as Eunice Beeman, living in the home of her parents. They were at least married by Jun 1880. Eunice and Levi did not have children.4,5
  • Levi Colvin died on 1 July 1882 at Canandaigua, Ontario Co., New York.6,5
  • Levi was possibly born in Clarendon, Rutland Co., Vermont and is a likely member of the Colvin family who settled there. His probable ancestors, Levi Colvin (1745-1834) and Lydia Jencks (or Jenks, living, age 92 in 1837) were originally from Rhode Island and were married at Scituate on 10 Sep 1763. The couple settled in Clarendon, Vermont in 1774, and Levi Colvin served as an ensign with a Vermont regiment commanded by Col. Brown during the American Revolution. Some Colvins, descended from Levi and Lydia Colvin, came to Cayuga Co., New York in the 1820s or 30s. This Levi may certainly be a grandson of Levi and Lydia Colvin of Rhode Island and Clarendon, Vermont. An definite connection has not yet been attempted.
  • He appeared on the census in 1840 at Conquest, Cayuga Co., New York, with a family of 1 male 10-15, 1 male 20-30, 1 male 30-40, 1 female 5-10, 2 females 20-30, and 1 female 30-40. Enumerated on the same page are Charles Colvin (age 40-50) and Josiah Colvin (age 20-30).7
  • He appeared on the census on 13 August 1850 at Conquest, Cayuga Co., New York, age 49, born in Vermont, a farmer with real estate valued at $11,255, with him are wife, Mary, son Baxter B. (24), daughter Josephine (16), Margaret Ryne (20), Edward Canady (19), James York (19), and Alfred Walker (11).8
  • He appeared on the census on 16 August 1860 at Conquest, Cayuga Co., New York, Levi Colvin is age 59, born in Vermont, a farmer with real estate valued at $14,840, and a personal estate valued at $4479. With him are his wife, Mary, age 59, Sarah Tucker, age 18, a domestic, and farm laborers, Shepherd Knowlton (17), John Laboon (35) and Cinthia Moore (13).3
  • He appeared on the census on 25 July 1870 at Aurelius, Cayuga Co., New York, Levi is age 70 (says born in New York), a farmer. He is enumerated in the household of Josiah Colvin, age 57 (probably a son). Levi is apparently a widower.9
  • He appeared on the census on 5 June 1880 at Canandaigua, Ontario Co., New York, Levi is age 79, born in Vermont, a farmer. With him is his wife, Eunice, age 43, and living with them are farm hands, Michael Finerty (21), and Patrick Zobin (35).2
  • Will proved on 11 September 1882 Levi Colvin is called late of Canandaigua, letters testamentary were issued to Eunice B. Colvin, executor.10

Family 1: Mary b. c 1801, d. b Jul 1870

  • He married first between 1820 and 1825 Mary.3
  • Baxter B. Colvin8
  • Josephine Colvin8

Family 2: Eunice M. Beeman b. 13 May 1837, d. 29 Mar 1904
